As God is my witness ...

... I am at an absolute loss as to how to properly mock this:

P.S. If anyone cares, I once documented just one of Gunn Reid's egregious, blatant, howling falsehoods here.

I suggest you simply reapply Mary McCarthy's comment on Lillian Hellman: "Every word she writes is a lie, including 'and' and 'the'."

The is an old Dashiell Hammett novel called the Golden Horseshoe and it begins with:

"I was reading a sign high on the wall behind the bar:

ONLY GENUINE PRE-WAR AMERICAN AND BRITISH WHISKEYS SERVED HERE

I was trying to count how many lies could be found in those nine words, and had reached four, with promise of more …"

That headline reminds me of that quote.

Is Sheila Gunn Reid smart enough to know that she's lying?

It depends on what kind of "smart" you're referring to - cognitive intelligence, or moral intelligence.

If the former - yes, she is definitely smart enough to know she's lying. That's clear from the surgical omission of facts that run counter to whatever narrative she's constructing, and in her careful choice of wording intended to suggest a falsehood without making the lie explicit.

If the latter - I don't think she has the first clue. Her real lie is in her claim to be practicing "journalism". She's a not very gifted lobbyist and high-school level provoateur, cosplaying the part of "reporter" and demanding all the privileges of a journalist (access, interviews, accreditation, recognition) without accepting any of the responsibilities that access entails (like honesty, balance, and accountability). Since her goal is not function as a "journalist" but as a propagandist, she may or may not understand her own hypocrisy.
