Document the douchebagitude.

Seriously, go wild.

WELL, THAT'S JUST EMBARRASSING: Commenter Lenny draws our attention to this. I am ashamed.

Sandy Crux goes to comment and then in the next post correct two typos... Priceless.

If they spent at the same level in Afghanistan, where there's an actual WAR going on, as they're spending for a weekend summit of clueless morons in Toronto, we would have spend over 2 trillion dollars.

Holy cognitive dissonance. The security situation is no worse when the G-summits were held in the US, and I bet with confidence that post-9/11 US is far more demanding in security measures, especially since there have been a number of terrorist acts over the years. But, we had a firebombing and a lot of protestors coming? My god. Surely, that would demand an approximate quandruple increase expenditures.
*headdesk*

Funny how when Adscam went down, people didn't buy Chretien's defence that he was doing it for the sake of the country. And now they demand the same understanding from skeptics. Wonderful.

Sorry, one other thing CC, it appears the businesses and residents within the control zone will not be reimbursed should they suffer damage. Makes you wonder where the money is all going, eh?

I agree with jkg...

It's funny how the danger seems to have escalated and now they need "more" security.

I just blame graft and bad planning. Remember these are the people that are blaiming the lost of the war in Afghanistan because the Taliban refuses to line up and be shot in the open...

Exactly. This billion dollars is obviously not enough, since presumably Obama will still bring his own plane, his own armoured car, and his own armed Secret Service detail, creating in effect his own separate security layer. He doesn't trust the CPC provided security, why should we?

It is highly unlikely that the POTUS' security detail is going to cede much operational control, and with that, they would absorb most of the costs themselves. It has happened in the past that the RCMP, especially in certain events involving the GG and foreign ambassadors, took complete operational control. But we are talking about the G20 meeting here.

Further to the point, as Brian Busby pointed it out in that thread, Canada actually hosted a G8 summit about 9 months after 9/11. It does put into question just what the hell they are doing. Do they think they are playing some Tower Defense flash game or something?

Just for fun, I ran some numbers and the 1.1 billion dollars the Canadian government is spending on security for the G8 and G20 summits would build a wall of $10 bills about 3 meters high, 10 centimeters thick and 767 meters long--probably long enough to surround the Deerhurst resort--with enough left over to buy everyone within 100 km of Huntsville, Ontario, a beer.

I suspect someone's pockets are getting lined
