Being right about everything all of the time.

Oh, come on ... when everyone else was celebrating Speaker Peter Milliken's Parliamentary smackdown of the Cons over the Afghan detainees documents, I know I predicted something like this:

Opposition balks at Tory loophole in detainee records deal
Conservative proposal would allow exemptions for some documents

The Harper government has been trying to insert a loophole in a deal that’s supposed to grant opposition MPs full access to secret records on Afghan detainees – a proposal that could derail negotiations if not resolved.

Opposition parties are fighting the attempted exemption that would let Ottawa withhold some documents on the grounds they are “not necessary or appropriate for the purpose of holding Parliament to account."

Feel free to acknowledge my spectacular talent at prognostication any time.

Not so fast there CC, many have predicted exactly this outcome.

The next move will be the Liberals screaming a little indignation, bending over and letting Harper assfuck them. Just because....

Expect Con supporters to say that this is a dead issue again (hoping that is will have a little more traction in the collective unconscious). The supporters will be right, in the fascist kind of way when you repeat a lie enough times it becomes the truth.

We can wonder why Harper is hiding something, and the Connies will argue "think about the security of our soldiers" - or some other emotionally charged words....

Expect Colvin's name to be muddied and a few assfucking generals to do some chest pounding...

Expect more obfuscation and dares for an election instead of doing what is right for Canada.

How about they act like a real opposition - tell Harper they've had enough fucking around, tear up the agreement and demand all the documents now.
For an encore they can immediately issue summons to all Conservative staffers on committee witness lists, before they're given a chance to not show up.

One can dream.

Since youse guys are throwing billions of dollars around here and there, for security, like for diplomats & such, why don't you put another billion into security for the troops, instead of worrying about who's going to look at these reports?

Progressives are not leaders. Obama is no progressive, but he's the closest the USA has to offer in the way of a leader. As the Gulf unfolds, Obama has no idea what being a leader involves. In the current crisis in Canada, either does Iggy. He has been given the gift of incompetent greed in the continued clownish Con cons. Chretien, Clinton - those days are gone. Now all we have are Iggy, Layton and Obama. The jello hasn't even set. With these namby-pamby effetes, it never will. (My apologies to Obama for comparing him to Iggy.)

Sorry to diverge - you may want to witness the Patrick Ross nuttiness of his comments to my recent post.

Was he going on about triangles again? Someone should seriously look into getting him committed before he hurts someone.

Why doesn't the Opposition just resign in protest?

I never disagreed with you regarding the government's actions post Milliken ruling, and this is typical of their pattern on this file in particular as well as their pattern more generally too so with all due respect (which you do deserve, this is not meant with sarcasm) to your powers of prediction this is not that hard a thing to have predicted. This government is the most power abusive in our history and has created so many extremely bad precedents like this that the long term damage to our fundamental institutions may be beyond repair.

Predicting the Harper CPC will lie obfuscate and do everything they can to continue to block access to these documents is not a feat of masterful prognostication, it is pure common sense and almost as certain as expecting to see the sun rise each morning. I never thought the document ruling meant suddenly the Harper government was going to do the right thing, I was happy because it at least does something to mitigate the wholesale destruction of our Parliamentary system that this Harper government has been engaging in since it came to power. I never expected anything else from the government and I believe I said so at the time and agreed with you where the government's behaviour and what to expect from them was concerned.

In my books one can never be too cynical where Harper is concerned, because no matter how cynical you are he still manages to find a way to exceed your worst expectations.
