Shorter Mike Ignatieff

We don't approve of the budget but we have no balls, no agenda, no direction and hell, we're barely discernible from the Cons anyway. So we'll express that disapproval by doing squat. Your Liberal Party, the not much lesser of evils!

I believe they're working from the principle 'the less you do the fewer people you'll piss off.' It's often highly successful.

And they traded Dion for this!! Time to give Kennedy a shot?

If we don't get an opposition party soon, we're gonna get stuck with Steve until he dies of old age (or morbid obesity - whichever comes first)!

Maybe Michaƫlle Jean will step up and save Canada. If no one else will.

Christ, Prime Minister Country, I always say.

I say have the BQ go national, they are the only party that seems to care for Canadian values...

I am hoping it is simply a ruse to ensure that Harper is in the House and they are actually holding a vote on a confidence matter, so they can actually defeat the government.

Recall that the last two times they talked about defeating the government when there was not an actual vote in progress, the vote was denied because Harper ran away by proroguing.

True that. I believe the best strategy is to keep your mouth shut (Mr Layton) until the actual vote comes about, either the speech from the throne, or the budget. Even if they have to hide behind the curtains, just make sure the Cons have no idea what's coming to them.

hide behind the curtains.
I've been trying to find a reference for that for ages. Do you recall when that was? I think it was during Pearson/Diefenbaker years and someone had enough members to defeat a bill, but I don't recall the details. My dad told me about it many years ago.

That is probably exactly the tactic was taking when he said he would not support the budget, but won't vote in enough numbers to defeat this budget.

Short of talking coalition with Layton (which I still think is our only salvation). What do we expect Iggy to do, really?

People talk of no so-called 'strong' opposition, well, whenever the Liberals try to go strong and oppositional in the past, the Candian population goes bullistic!! Almost like Canadians are desperate to keep St-Stevie in power, to the point the the polls plummet.

Iggy is damned if he does damned if he don't. I think his statement reflects this. Case in point: he still can't win here.

Lindsay, if you've ever read my blog, you would know that I'm not a fan of Iggy, but he's all we got right now. We can't change leaders at this stage of the game.

I'm sorry but I have to say this again; the NDP has no chance of governing, ever. Unless, of course, they join coalition or merge with the other left of center parties.

Canadians are just not that left winged as we'd like to think. They're mostly centrist. Now these centrists are being taken on St-Stevie's sharp right turn. How do we get them off? They too are terrified of the evil "socialists".

Also, last election, the Bloc didn't even talk Quebec separation. He did an anybody but Harper campaign. He made clear to Quebecers that his party was the only one that could prevent the horror a Harpercon majority. It worked like a charm in quebec.

So why can't this work for the Liberals at this time?

Nothing terrifies me more than a St-Stevie majority. I'm surprised that more of you aren't.

I've asked this question before: would you like to have Jim and Tammy Faye Baker or Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort or other Christian Evangelicals run the country? Then why would we allow Stevie a majority?

I seriously doubt that Iggy is part of that the evangelical Christian far right movement.

I don't care how often st-stevie says it; give him a majority, and you'll see Canada turned into an even worse version of George W Bush's Americana than GW Bush's U.S itself. At least Bush was too busy keeping America scared of the Muslim Commie boogie men to think of ways to overturn Roe V Wade. Don't care how often Stevie says it; he would recrimalize abortion, among other horrors.

No, we need to rally for a coalition, or even an all out merger. This divisiveness plays into St-Stevie's games of divide and conquer.

As for another new liberal leader. Please, no more from Toronto. Quebec won't get behind them.

Please Seer, no matter how much you say it, it still remains one of the stupidest things said in 2010.

Dion had more going for him than this Iggy chump.

The Liberal Party is an idiot for giving this guy the top job. What were they thinking?
