I just wet myself again.

Wag of the tail to earlier commenter CWTF for this gem:

How can Parliament work if the Liberals don't show up?

I got nuthin'.

And CWTF is on a roll, as he draws our attention to the irrepressible Kady O'Malley, trying to educate Adrian MacNair. I'm guessing the effort is going to be lost on him.

Funny. I remember the 2005 budget -- a surplus budget that also included the biggest increase in military spending in Canadian history up to that time. For the second reading of that budget, the CPC joined with the commie pinko NDP to abstain from the budget vote. (Steve's good buddies at the time, the evil separatists, voted against.)

So overy single CPC member abstained. Anyone care to spitball the math for how many Canadians that represented?

Incidentally, that was the biggest vote abstention in Canadian parliamentary history. I don't remember the CPC being too worried about "making parliament work" back in those days, though.

Jesus, M@ ... IOKIYAC. How many times do I have to explain that to you?

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I think the official CPC term is "accountability" though.

Every time Adrian uses the term "citizen journalism," I start longing for disenfranchisement. And then I go into a shame spiral...

Is it just me.

Are the CPC apologists becoming more unhinged, and unglued by the day?

I used to have a bead on them when they were screeching about things like transparency, accountability, smaller government, lower taxes, no more corporate welfare, triple-E Senate, cultural/ethnic chauvinism, etc. etc. Now that Harper has failed them so spectacularly on all of these deeply-held convictions (far more egregiously than even I ever thought possible), their continued state of thrall has become utterly mystifying.

Unhinged and unglued would seem perfectly normal to me at this point. What I'm seeing now just defies explanation.

They have no credibility to lose.

How about this little dropping from "Hunter" when asked how her boycott of Google was going...

"Actually Google is back in my good books because they are helping PM Harper with his upcoming YouTube live blog and it's got CBC heads spinning. They must have seen my protest and backed down."

The concept of "principles" is utterly foreign to these people, isn't it?

Two hypotheses:

1. They're more anti than pro, so sticking it to non-CPCers trumps sticking to their convictions.

2. They're biding their time in the hopes that the CPC gets a majority. Then Harper can drop the warm-and-fuzzy MOR act and become the neotheocon of their wet dreams.

As the second hypothesis implies a level of intelligence beyond reptilian, it's the less likely scenario.

I think they're as nervous as we are of Harper getting a majority government, since the hidden agenda has just turned out to be spectacular incompetence.

"Spectacular Incompetence"

Pretty much sums it all up.

They obviously have no principles left to lose.

Not that they had any in the first place.

The lengths these clowns go to bend over for Harper, is beyond belief.

Ti-Guy like you I can't explain it.

It sure would make an interesting psychological case study.

I think there's a lot to this hypothesis. I've long maintained that what characterises these so-called "conservatives" are not their shared values and principles or any real commitment to conservatism at all, but their inchoate anger, likely rooted in the relative emptiness/meaninglessness of modern life. Whereas the rest of us deal with this by either becoming philosophical about it or finding ways to cope (which includes the need to find all of this amusing), these people prefer to bitch about it endlessly and seem to find some kind of comfort in blaming or "sticking it to" the rest of us. For everything.

I don't see any shared values, any courage of convictions, any kind of coherence at all anymore. Just the inchoate anger and the blame.

The devotion to Big Daddy and the Party is simply due to the fact that he and it continue to provide this rather dull and juvenile world view with the gravitas that compel the rest us, like or not, to take it seriously.

I think they just like being contrary to commonsense.

Ti-Guy said...

Do you know people who, in all seriousness, like to be contrary to common sense, sooey? I know a lot of contrarians (who challenge 'received wisdom') and I know a few people who have a bizarre understanding of common sense, but most people find common sense very appealing.

At some point, we have to really understand what's going on with these people if we intend to send them back to the margins, where they belong.
