When the Liberals do it, they're assholes.

Life was so much simpler back in 2005, when it was the Liberals who were undemocratic douchebags:

Canoe.ca reports that the Liberals might prorogue Parliament in the fall as a way of giving themselves more time to put together a platform and to implement a cabinet shuffle.

They’d also have a new Throne Speech in early 2006.

In other words, it will hinder the work of Parliament for its own partisan purposes. They’ve already undermined the constitution to do this, why not prorogue Parliament.

It's so cool that the Intertoobz never forget.

It was even simpler back in 2002,2003 when JC pulled a couple of perogy moves with the sole purpose being fucking up that prick Martin.

Internal warfare as a rationale.

Harper at least gains a functional political advantage that extends outside his party.

Boo-fucking-hoo.

I'm curious, Syncro ... are all conservatives too stupid to understand a simple point? Seriously.

Cameron Campbell said...

Can I do this one?

Syncro? You're a hypocritical piece of dripping offal. It was wrong then was it? Bad JC? THEN HOW IS IT OK NOW YOU STUPID FUCKING WASTE OF DNA?

syncrodox said...

Not at all Cammy.

My point is that as cynical as fuck as proroguing Parliament is.....in this case Harper at least gains some advantage over his opposition whereas when JC pulled the same move he was doing so to gain an advantage within his party. Things don't more partisan than that do they?

JC had a fucking majority and no problems at all in the senate.

Additionally, can someone point me to the broadsheet outrage that followed JC's "scrappy" maneuvers?

The media the media the media!!!

To paraphrase Chris Rock, it's not the media that has closed down parliament you pathetic wank.

syncrodox said...

Cammy

Precedent you retarded fuck. What Harper has done now is no more cynical than anything JC pulled.

Coyne was pissing and moaning about precedent and the major portion of the MSM have their panties in a knot.

Lizzy and Heather Malik are apoleptic, others like yerself bemoan the end of democracy.....Where was the outrage in 02-03?

Once again...Boo-fucking-hoo.

Syncro

Cameron Campbell said...

I was outraged you stupid twatwaffle. I. Am. Not. In. Charge. Of. The. Rest. Of. The. World.

CC is right, what's the point of trying to talk to you lot?

syncrodox said...

Then I'm sure you can point to a record of this outrage....personally or media wise?

No?

Chretien was enjoying the support of a majority of Canadians. The motives of his move, Martin or not, was not to avoid parliamentary investigation into his government's conduct. There is a fundamental qualitative difference here. JC was not facing possibility of war crimes charges and breaches of the law. Harper is. CONTEXT is everything.

While judgement may be passed on Chretien's act, the issue here is not what Chretien did, it is what Harper is doing. Now. In the fucking present. For a group that likes to demonise the Liberals at every moment, they sure use them as a bloody great crutch when it comes to justifying the behaviour of the current PM.

Cons: Everything them darned dirty Libs done did was eeeeevil.

Libs: You're doing the exact same thing.

Cons: And that makes it okay! Yay team.

1) I'm sorry I don't keep a diary of all my thoughts. How about you, proof of every political thought at the tip of your fingers?
2) Didn't mention media outrage
3) Right now, as Boris point out, JC isn't in charge and this behavior is part of a pattern of abuse of parliament.
4) A thought, just so we're clear: I'm not a LPC hack, never voted for them in my life. You seem to be projecting.

syncrodox said...

Boris

With all due respect you're full of shit.

While war crimes were not on the table, breaches of law were on Nov 12, 2003.

This was the second time JC pulled a perogy and the result was the Gomery Commission load landing in Paul Martin's lap.

Cynical...yes...unprecedented..no.

Now try to follow me here...What Parliamentary advantage did JC have to gain? None...No?

In the present a case can be made for Harper gaining a legislative advantage.

Of course this is not an advantage the left is happy to concede but who likes losing?

Finally, as with the others, show me a comparable level of outrage at JC's maneuvering and I'll concede the Left's righteous indignation.

Until then....boo-fucking-hoo.

Cameron Campbell said...

Wait, Syncro is arguing that the end justifies the means?

So, not only is it bad when the liberals do it and ok when the CPC do it, it's also ok because Stephen is doing it to score points.

Seriously, the saying "I've got principles, and if you don't like them I've got others" suddenly makes so much more sense.

If Syncro and Crux were to mate, would the offspring have opposable thumbs?

syncrodox said...

Cammy

Sorry about the perceived projection thingy.

I did bring the media angle into this as a point of perspective. I stand by my point.

Given that you accept the fact that JC played perogey once or twice with a majority would you care to comment now on the relative odiousness of harper playing same with a minority parliament and an obstructionist senate?

Please elucidate on the relative horrors.

syncrodox said...

I sure hope so.

Another thought, one that I've had for a wee bit (sorry, no documentation of how long.. pardon): if the Liberals are the Worst. People. Ever. isn't using the excuse "but the Liberals did it!" basically like saying "As long as we don't do the worst thing possible we're ok".

It's kind of like using, I dunno, the Khmer Rouge as the base line for what constitutes a genocide "well, ok, as long as you haven't done anything as bad as them you're good to go.".

Way to lower the bar.

Cameron Campbell said...

Do try and keep up:

Me: LPC proroguing = bad
CPC doing the same = bad

You: LPC proroguing = bad, horrible ick!
CPC doing the same = OOH TACTICAL ADVANTAGE YAY TEAM! but but but the liberals did it.

Lindsay

Did those vibes fix the roof yet?

I have to know.

Syncro

syncrodox said...

Cammy

Me=LPC did it over internal warfare, I didn't like it.

Me= CPC does it over external warfare. As a small c conservative I don't like it but at least I can see a larger objective other than crass personal legacy.

As for you I will believe your claim that you hated both instances. That said, point me in the direction of the media outrage when JC set the precedent for this shit and I will withdraw my media reference accordingly.

Syncro

Lindsay Stewart said...

ah the tale of the ceiling. xmas day it was warmer and rainy and the roof entertained me with an anxious pitter-patter, the stain grew over the course of the day, the drywall tape bulged and the drips started early afternoon to add the joyous percussion and sploink of water into rubbermaid containers. shortly after dinner about a square foot of stucco dangled and eventually dropped. the other day roofers were in and out over the afternoon, cut a hole in the ceiling for a look see, stomped about on the roof and so far haven't located the leak. so the saga shall continue until the next round of rain when the roofers will return to try and spot the leak. presuming it can be located they'll then come and tear out my ceiling and replace it. yay!

so, ceiling unresolved but all good vibes appreciated.

syncrodox said...

Bad roofers Lindsay. Phone a reputable roofing company.

Syncro

Cameron Campbell said...

You have a flat roof or a shingle pitched roof?

Syncro: thanks for your magnanimity... now, why the fuck would I care what you think about the media?

syncrodox said...

Cammy

If you cared about truth and justice the way you claim to you might want to take the opportunity to correlate the known information, the current outrage and the past media response.

It's not what I think pal it's what you think.

Syncro

Cameron Campbell said...

Again, the simple fact is that the media have nothing to do with any of this.

If you need the media to tell you when to be annoyed then you're beyond help.

The LPC didn't just prorogue Parliament nor did the media. The CPC did.

syncrodox said...

Fuck Cammy....is the concept of perspective that fucking alien?

Syncro

Cameron Campbell said...

No, it's that it's utterly pointless.

Who cares what the media is saying? Seriously. It's a separate issue that serves to function as a distraction.

syncrodox said...

Cammy

In my perception, perspective is everything...in yours...seemingly not so much.

Past to present so to speak.

Syncro

I fail to see the functional political advantage proroguing Parliament gives to the New Conservatives. Even their usual supporters see this 2nd go 'round as irresponsibly arrogant.

Oh, by the by, at what point did you figure it was ok to call me Cammy? Given that I'm using my real name I'd prefer it that you did me the courtesy of actually using it.

Thanks.

The senate that he promised to never appoint anyone to and to reform?

Gosh..

Didn't Harpo also promise fixed election dates? Did he mean "fixed election" dates, or the other one? I can't tell any more.

Cameron Campbell said...

Oh there are fixed election dates, it's the prorogue dates that aren't fixed

Dear stinkroduck:

When you've finally and totally worn out that lame-ass excuse of, "But ... but ... but ... the Liberals!", simply rewording it as, "On the other hand, the Liberals ..." really doesn't represent a whole new talking point.

I'm just sayin'.

syncrodox said...

Jeez Camshaft, do ya think Harper had a snowballs chance in hell of reforming the senate with a Liberal senate majority?

Cc, reading comprehension just isn't your thing is it? The precedent for this shit was set a long time ago, this is how the big boys play and all the current pissing and moaning is nothing more than partisan sour grapes.

For the last time...boo-fucking-hoo.

You can just see this "in-law" ruining every family dinner party he's invited to. If he dares opens his mouth that is. Which is rarely an inhibition much on display in Alberta, since everyone is shit-faced by the time the appetizers are served.

Paladiea said...

Syncrodox still believes that Harper will actually do something about the Senate instead of merely enjoying his power as has been demonstrated time and time again.

Hey Syncro, it's people like YOU who allow our democracy to crumble making mealy mouthed excuses about "well it was done before". The point is that we have to hold our government accountable. The failings of the past have nothing to do with the actions of today.

So either reconsider your position or stop pretending you're a fan of democracy.

Prorogues:

Liberals: bureaucratic mess involving moving numbers around on bits of paper.

Conservatives: investigations into possible Canadian government facilitation of torture in a theatre of war in which Canada is a belligerent force and in which Canadian soldiers die.

One of these things is not like the other.

but but but but the liberals.

And that's still not my name.

Let it go, kids. While actual grownups might want to debate constitutionality and democracy and grownup stuff like that there, the whole issue of prorogation to syncrodox never rises above the level of, "Har har har! It's awesome how much that pisses off you lefties!"

Welcome to modern conservatism. It's like junior high school all over again.
