It's an ugly pattern is what it is.

From only a couple weeks back:

Saskatchewan Party Government Registers Whopping Huge $1 Billion Deficit!

"The release of the government’s mid-year financial report Thursday shows it now projecting it will take in only $109 million from potash royalties and taxes – $1.8 billion below what it forecast in its spring budget...

... on a summary basis – which includes all of the operations of government including the Crowns – a deficit projected at $25 million at budget is now pegged at $1.05 billion."

So it's true ... people from Saskatchewan really can't count.

Don't tell PR--he'll blame the ndp gov't from 30 years ago.

It's very, very sad. I cannot understand why people continue to think that conservative governments are great fiscal managers. They get into office, cut taxes, and proceed to run up huge deficits. Last time it was so bad, the party had to change its name so Sask people would vote for them again.

And nice dig there about the Riders. If you're going to lose, it shouldn't be on a technicality.

Neither can I.
It's all in the marketing of the name "conservative" I think at this point....

At least in recent years, they've all come in at time when the economy is peaking. I think they get the impression that they're responsible for that immediately after they come to power. Their irrational exuberance causes them to be irrationally optimistic.

The other reason is of course, that they're penny-wise and pound foolish. They think it's gutsy to cut a couple of arts grants and focus on that while most other spending spins out of control.

They can still scream about Adscam, for example, even though the sums involved pale in comparison to tens of billions the Harper government has mismanaged and/or stolen.

Our theory at the office is that the Rider brass subbed in our Finance Minister as Special Teams coach.

Anyone who cares to do a little investigation will find that ALL CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENTS are lousy accountants. They run on the good old...we'll cut your taxes mantra...and they do. And that starves the treasury, then we go into debt. When the hurt filters down to the individual taxpayer, we get our act together and elect the other guys (Liberals in Ottawa, the NDP in Saskatchewan) and then blame them for the pain involved in cleaning up the mess.

This is not the Tories' (SP) fault. We elected them and we're the dummies that are actually causing the pain.

In Saskatchewan, we elected a guy who has gone bankrupt in the only two business ventures he ever attempted. Now he is bankrupting the province, smiling and laughing all the way. We had better get rid of him in 2011 or there will be nothing left worth saving...and he will be off to his reward in the Senate.
