I can't take it anymore.

Seriously, it isn't even a challenge anymore. Is it any wonder that "Hunter" worships her? Partners in jaw-dropping ignorance.

HEH. K-Lo ... the National Review's in-house "Hunter." Aren't they just too adorable?

Party all night, "Nuit Blanche" style.

A few of us irrepressible party animals will be doing "Nuit Blanche" this coming Saturday in Toronto, preceded that afternoon by drinking, socializing and possibly hot tubbing earlier in the day somewhere at a downtown hotel.

So get your party hat on and, if you want to join us for any or all of the above, drop me an e-mail and we'll fill you in. Not surprisingly, it's going to be a discreet guest list so, no, Patrick, no mullets allowed.

What a difference a couple weeks and being a total douchebag makes.

Sept 11:

With Stephen Harper, the economy is strong and the country is united

Sept 30:

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper said Tuesday he will formally ask the television networks staging this week's leaders' debates to extend the segments devoted to the economy from 12 minutes to a full hour.

In a release, Harper said the financial crisis affecting the U.S. "has deepened since the debate format was finalized.

"The economy is, understandably, top of mind for most Canadians," Harper said. "Unfortunately, the current debate format does not devote sufficient time to the economy, the most important issue facing Canada today."

So ... in the space of less than a month, Stephen Harper has taken a "strong" economy and jeopardized it to the point where it requires emergency attention on national television.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

P.S. Perhaps someone would like to ask Stephen about that whole "Security and Prosperity Partnership" and tight financial and economic integration with our neighbour to the south. Haven't heard much of that lately. Awfully quiet out there.

Yes, SUZANNE ...

... because the head honchos at the CBC desperately need someone to opine on the evils of abortion, week after week after week after week after week after week after week after week after ...

Well, I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.

Holy shit, but I love being right.

It was several days ago that your humble scribe opined thusly:

Very early on, some of the brighter Dems and bloggy pundits suspected that the GOP were setting up the Dems for a pounding. In shrieking hysterically about how the financial sky was falling, the Republicans were trying to goad the Dems into hurriedly signing the $700 billion bail-out package while the GOP quietly stood a couple steps back, whereupon the GOP would then immediately demonize the Democrats as the party of profligate waste of hard-earned taxpayer dollars, bailing out their obscenely rich and corrupt friends on Wall Street. And it was critically important that this was done real soon now, so it could actually be used as a cudgel with which to beat Dems bloody before the election.

Fast forward a few days, to where those he-man Republicans were complaining how Nancy Pelosi hurt their widdle feelings, and that's why they scuttled the bailout and totally fucked over the country.

But hark! What ho?

RNC ad, was cut, sent out before package failed

The Republican National Committee's new advertisement critical of the the Wall Street "bailout" was produced and sent to television stations in key states before the package failed, officials at two stations said.

"Wall Street Squanders our money. And Washington is forced to bail them out with -- you guessed it -- our money. Can it get any worse?" asks the ad's narrator, as the words "BAILOUT WITH OUR MONEY" cross the screen. (The answer: Obama's plans would make it worse.)

That's the great thing about unprincipled, right-wing sleazebags -- they're so predictable.

KILL ME NOW, LORD: Your bonus "Politico" moment:

Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing.

The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.

After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.

There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

It's the train wreck you can't look away from.

OH, FOR FUCK'S SAKE! Just read.

CPC: Wrong On Crime

Dave speaketh, you listen.

Mr Harper, prisons aren't solutions.

Happy Banned Books Week, boys and girls.

Nobody tell Caribou Barbie – it’ll get her bible-thumping, anti-choice, Miss America panties in such a bunch.

Now get out there and read something offensive.

Bitch. Slap.

In which Fareed Zakaria takes Sarah Palin out to the woodshed, while Wolf Blitzer is still trying to remove John McCain's dick from his mouth.

How curious, in a Blogging Tory sort of way.

When stupid Blogging Tories blog.

And what do we have in the festering cesspool of BT dumbassitude this morning? Oh, look:

  • "The Secrets of Vancouver" obediently regurgitates the meme of "Barack Obama: elitist". Yes, dear. But thanks for playing.

  • BT minority crime reporter "Neo Conservative" does his best to fake sincerity: "-- KABUL -- The U.S.-led coalition says three of its troops have been killed in a roadside bomb blast in southern Afghanistan. The coalition did not release any other details, including the nationalities of the troops or the blast's location." No word on whether any of those soldiers were black, so Neo's keeping the champagne on ice for the time being.

  • "Liberty is Good" opens with, "I blogged tonight at the Shotgun on a great letter by Dr. Steven Horwitz of St. Lawrence University on why the left should not blame the free market for the current financial crisis in the US ..." And that's where I stopped reading.

  • And then there's Hunter, whose posts need no commentary.

Drop by again tomorrow when stupid Blogging Tories continue to say stupid things.

CBC Ombudsman & Due Diligence

This business with the CBC is frustrating. I'm re-reading the Ombudsman's whinging little cry for solace from the scary freepers and it occurs to me that one of the main complaints that he is acting upon here is a call for accuracy. Facts, just teh facts ma'am. And one of the outrages of Mallick's piece is the statement that Republican men are sexual inadequates. My heavens, what factual basis could there be for that sort of an inflammatory opinion, asks Ombudsman, Vince Carlin?

Portions of Ms. Mallick’s column do not meet the standards set out in policy for a point-of-view piece since some of her “facts” are unsupportable.

Well deary me, I typed three words into the Google box: Republican sex scandal. That generated 1,410,000 hits. Not fair you say, not fair. So, re-submitted in quotes, a mere 24,300 hits, why that ain't hardly nothing. And what is perched at the top of the hit parade, a handy little wiki from the friendly communist nazis at Daily Kos,
dkosopedia, and what would it contain, a veritable (emphasis on veritable) parade of Republican peccadilloes! And what seems to feature heavily are aberrant sexual exploits, illicit recordings & videotaping, sex with minors, infidelity, prostitutes, kinks, child porn as well as some garden variety stuff, burglaries, drunk driving and the like. What is routine among them is that they are members of the mom & apple pie, family values, Jesus and June Cleaver party. These lying hypocrites are so bound up by the lies their party perpetuates that their normal sex drives get sublimated, twisted into these disturbing convolutions. They have to lie and hide their normal and natural proclivities, add time and pressure and somehow these outbursts of deviance seem to follow.

Perhaps Heather Mallick simply chose the wrong terminology,
inadequate seems to indicate they can't perform the sexual act. When it comes to our dear conservative friends, that clearly isn't the case. They sure can perform the sexual act, in a rubber suit with a dildo up the ass, with a gay hooker on a meth hunt, with Congressional pages, in chat rooms, with children, hookers or strangers in toilets. To be more accurate, Mallick might have opted for a term like, corrupt sexual hypocrites. Surely the CBC Ombudsman in investigating the claims against Heather Mallick and her ever so naughty article actually did the 0.31 seconds of research it took me and Google to come up with a few "facts". So, swiped wholesale from the dkosopedia are the Republican sex scandals of the George W. Bush era. I'm sorry, what's that too familiar chattering sound? But but but... Clinton. He gots'd a blow job! Oh how could we forget that old fave? That was sufficient to disrupt the entirety of the American political system in a witch hunt that cost millions to achieve an impeachment. So it's all good. Still, fun stuff in the list ahead, help yourself Mr Carlin.

Whew! Busy little fuckers, them conservatives.

Still with us? Okay, the other charges seem to stem from Heather Mallick's unkind assessment of the Palin family in her article. The use of the term "white trash" causes some discomfort, as well as the references to Palin's daughter. Evidently, Mr Carlin lives in a bubble since he supposes there is no factual basis for the opinion that Palin supporters are white trash. Why how ever could one find documentary evidence to support such an outrage? Let's just go back to that infernal Google shall we Mr Carlin... this time searching for "Palin supporters". No lefty homo bias or nothing in that search string. And coming in at No. 3 on the list, asking that musical question
How Many Palin Supporters Believe Demons Shape Our Politics? is the Irregular Times. Let's go to the quotes shall we?

The following are a few of the comments that have been made by people finding out about Sarah Palin’s connection to Thomas Muthee, the witch hunting pastor who is once again visiting the Wasilla Assembly of God church this coming weekend:

“The demons are real and cause much trouble. Just look at America. We have forsaken GOD and his son Jesus Christ, and Harry Potter is the new god we are teaching our children. Is it any wonder that our civilization is faltering. Every nation that has fogotten GOD has been cast down to hell. Blessed is the nation whose GOD is the LORD.”

“he [Muthee] and she [Palin] are up against Obama this time…a candidate for AntiChrist of the Last Days”

“Witches are a serious problem, and Africans seem to recognise the spiritual realm much more than northern europeans.”

“Spiritual warfare is real, I have experienced this myself, though not to the degree described here. I have also been a part of church services similar to what Sarah Palin describes, where ministers have spoken to people about things they could not have known beforehand. God does work through others. Given the media basis, I’m sure some of the accounts given of Pastor Muthee’s Kenyan ministries is skewed to make Palin look bad.
Creationism should be taught in schools, it is much more plausible than Evolution. In fact, Evolution is being increasingly discredited at an expanding rate while evidence of ‘intelligent design’ is being accepted my more and more scientist.”

“We are not fighting against only politicians but demons as well. The Bible says that the god of this world is Satan.”

“Praise Jesus . . . and praise Pastor Muthee for recognizing their is evil in the world. God expects us to pray to ward off evil . . . and evil is everywhere my friends.”

“There is significant evidence that witches and witch doctors actually do things to people - heal, curse, etc. We ultra-rationalists in the West want to believe that there is nothing outside our understanding, but that is only faulty logic.”

“You basic generic secular humanist American does not understand Christianity or African witchcraft. African witches are trained to kill through poisons mostly or other means as needed. They target people specifically. This is to obtain finances or power. Spiritual warfare is important to Christians and it does have amazing results but it will always be downplayed and mocked the the secular population.”

“Evil spirits are real and they control many people in Washington, New York and especially Hollywood. It’s time for reality people. You cannot deny that Lohan and others like her are not being manipulated by evil spirits.”

“Witches are the tool of satan to bring chaos and fear upon humanity, but thank God for Pastors that recognize Gods power is greater than satan. Go Sarah!!”

“Witches and witchcraft are very prevalent in foreign countries, and by the way, demons are very real too not just something Hollywood dreamed up.”

“You say I do not believe that mumbo jumbo about the Devil and Demons! But I ask you what you base that belief on, is it a feeling you have in your gut, or maybe you took your position because someone you respect did not believe in Christ or were you enlightened by a university professor?”

“It’s too bad the libs are so satanic. God Bless the USA.”

“Witchcraft is real and talked about in The Bible. So is Spiritual Warfare. To deny a God takes more faith than accepting One.”

“Witchcraft and demon procession are real and have been around since the beginning of time.”

“I attended just last night a prayer service where a woman involved in witchcraft was freed from demonic posession.”

I suppose we can forgive the Ombudsman for failing to try and verify any of these wild claims in the Mallick article, after all that Google search returned 6,230,000 hits but it took an aching, eternal 0.33 seconds to do it. Why in this day of high speed latte sipping elitism, that's an eon. The fact that Sarah Palin is a religious lunatic is entirely her own business and certainly shouldn't be an impediment to her seeking the second most powerful office in the world. In this new, liberal minded millennium we need to open our minds and hearts to a diversity of opinions and beliefs. As long as it isn't those evil muzzies from Terrorstan, just wave a crucifix and it is all good. Paging Governor Koresh to the white courtesy phone. Still, charges of being white trash are a little harsh, no? After all, Palin's meteoric rise hasn't been checkered by anything scandalous. Using her high office to settle a family vendetta against her sister's ex-husband, a state trooper, nothing white trash about that. Allegedly firing Alaska's state police chief for refusing to shit-can the brother in law, what? Jeez, you'd think it was white trashy for the lady's husband to refuse to co-operate with investigators and be required by subpoena to appear at hearings investigating the charges. Never mind that the
not-at-all-white-trash Palin supporters are claiming that Obama operatives are somehow manipulating the Alaska state investigative process, up there in the state where Palin is governor.

As for those quality family values, there has yet to be an explanation tendered for the mysterious and risky behaviour of the governor, flying the length of the continent after her water broke to have her most recent of five kids. As for the daughter, modelling the kind of family values that Republicans are famous for, the governor's eldest is pregnant at 17. I feel really sorry for the child and the child she is about to have. Because that family has dragged her into the business of smiling and acting like nothing is wrong, they trumpeted the engagement of the girl to her self-professed "fucking redneck" baby daddy and McCain campaign operatives have been quoted celebrating the idea of a pre-election wedding (shotgun only implied) as a front page event that will bust the campaign momentum down for a week. That poor girl is being exploited on the altar of mommy's bright white trash ambitions. The Palin/McCain campaign are the ones responsible for making a spectacle out of the girl. White trash, I think the evidence is mounting, don't you Mr Carlin?

On CBCNews.ca, there does not
appear to be a wide range of “pointy” views.

Ahem... Rex fuckin' Murphy. Sir, if you must spout off at the behest of the masters from Fox, at least make an attempt to cover the stink of bullshit. It is as though you and the management of the CBC think we, the general public who pay your wage, are stupid.

Opinion and analysis should be clearly labeled and not lumped together. If an item is
meant to be satiric, it should be labeled as such.

Oh how silly of me, you
do think we're stupid. Reading Mallick's piece we are obviously not bright enough to recognize satire without a flashing light reminding us that this is not a dissertation, litany or insurance manual. You Mr Carlin and your complicit and cowardly superiors have buckled to pressure from a handful of pearl clutching ninnies and let us not forget what put the real fear in your quisling heart. You betrayed one of your own freelancers because you were scared of the noisy reaction. You have become enemies of freedom and liberty, engaging in censorship at the behest of the liars who pretend to support freedom of speech. Most telling is the incredibly slanted question you report with a timorous quaver in your typing...

I even
received a phone call from the Fox News web outlet inquiring whether the views
expressed represented the position of Canadians and “the Government of Canada.”

CBC is being run by cowards, it seems. Change your britches little man, the scary people will go away now that you've bent a knee and given in to their ignorant demands.

Yeah, let's talk about the "nanny state", shall we?

Yes, wankers, why don't you tell me all about whiners who desperately need nannies? Honestly, the next right-wing, loudmouth dumbshit that starts whinging on about the "nanny state" is going to get dragged out of the bar and clubbed like a baby seal.

P.S. And speaking about whiny prats that need wet nurses to look after them, how about all those "Stealth Cons?" Yes, these are the folks who are going to courageously protect you from the horrors of international Ismalojihadimormonism ... if they ever emerge from their secure, undisclosed locations.

CBC Gutless, Cowers Before Freepers

I can't begin to express how disappointed I am with the CBC. As Publisher, Mr Cruickshank should have some notion of journalistic responsibility. Popping a troublesome piece down the memory hole is a cowardly and foolish move. The fact is the piece was published, it crossed someone's desk and made it into pixels. If the powers that be feel that the 300 freepers had a legitimate point to make, they should have done what a dead tree paper would do, print an apology, a retraction or a counter piece from the other side. The simple fact is that the people that got together on the right and kept this thing alive had a mission and they have succeeded. They pulled off some after the fact censorship. They have their little victory and CBC publisher Cruickshank and Ombudsman Carlin both bent over and took it from behind. As a publisher, I feel especially ashamed for and contemptuous of Mr Cruickshank. If he gave more than 3 seconds of attention to the whining and hissing from Fox News and the execrable National Post, then he doesn't deserve a position in a news organization beyond delivery of caffeinated bevies. I wrote the following to both Mr Cruickshank and Mr Carlin:

Dear Mr Cruickshank and Mr Carlin,

I am writing to express my deep disappointment in your decision to pull Heather Mallick's opinion piece from your site. Perhaps it is simple ignorance of the nature of online politics as played in the blogosphere by right wing pressure groups and their media enablers. To read that you are even remotely concerned by attention from Fox News, America's most stilted and partisan, far right cable network and the deplorable National Post almost makes this a piece for comedy. If either of these "news" outlets practiced even a fraction of the policing they demand of you, they would perhaps approach a credible position. However, this is simply not the case. The partisanship you allude to is at its most strident at these two organizations. The fact is that in this case, the CBC has been "freeped".

Freeping (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=freep) is a term coined to acknowledge the efforts of right wing groups to bully and pressure organizations and to falsely skew polling data and information gathering online. Freeping is named for the extreme right wing website, freerepublic.com which refined this practice to an art. Hence more than 300 people "taking the trouble" to contact you. 300 organized, encouraged and enabled by proven pressure tactics intended to cow any legitimate organization or media outlet from expressing a contrary opinion. There is no little irony in that most of these characters are the very same folks who have railed at length against human rights commissions "stifling" their god given right to defame and abuse ethnic, religious, social and sexual minorities.

Gentlemen, you have been played like suckers. Congratulations, you have, at the behest of this online cadre of vocal extremists, silenced a voice from one of Canada's better writers. To think that you have done so under pressure from such laughable hacks as the Kay family makes me ashamed for you. By removing the article, you have not practiced self correction, you have knuckled under. These people may be socially retrograde bottom feeders but you have shown that you can be bullied. You have rolled over and they smell the blood in the water. You have compromised your integrity, you have shown weakness and there is nothing they love better.

I implore you to re-post the Mallick piece. Yes it makes controversial statements but throwing it down the memory hole is not the answer, it is not responsible journalistic practice and it is certainly not "healthy restraint". It is a knee jerk and cowardly reaction to organized pressure. The correct response would have been to offer up space to accompany the piece with a counter argument from an appropriate voice from the other side of the ideological gulf. If Mallick's claims are baseless, allow an argument to be made to refute them.

For the first time in my life, I am ashamed of the CBC and gentlemen, I am ashamed for you.

I encourage everyone that has a modicum of common sense to express themselves in kind. Let there be no doubt that these pressure tactics will not only continue but will increase in virulence.

Heh. Indeed. OK, moment's over ... back to work.

Who's your daddy, CBC?

Shorter CBC: "We, for one, welcome our new American media overlords."

K-W candidates public meetings?

Yes, they're mind-meltingly tedious, but give me a minute ...

OK, all set here. Who's driving?

Pot. Kettle. Ardvark.

Blogging Tory "Alberta Ardvark" has a good chuckle over disappearing CBC pages.

Yes, Ardy ... as a member of Stephen Taylor's BTs, you are so just the person to poke fun at web pages that mysteriously vanish down the memory hole.

Would you like me to start a list?

Yeah, about your work experience ...

John from AmericaBlog wonders aloud at the career prospects of some folks:

That didn't take long. Belgian-Dutch giant Fortis fell as did British mortgage lender Bradford and Bingley. Both were large financial organizations though Fortis had become very aggressive in recent years, buying banks everywhere. What ever happened to conservative bankers?

I've been wondering lately what impact all of this will have for individuals who are looking for work and who have Bear Stearns, Countrywide, Lehman Brothers, Fortis, etc on their CV. Do you think it will matter to future potential employers? Will it be like having Anderson Consulting or Enron or Philip Morris on your CV?

Great minds think alike, John. Great minds think alike.

That’s gonna leave a mark.

Oh my ... Frank Rich takes Grampy McSame’s geriatric ass out to the NYT woodshed and elegantly kicks the snot out of it.

Adam Yoshida: Crazy Person

Over at the Western Standard's Shitspray Blog, internationally renowned fuckwit Adam Yoshida holds forth on his vision for the future of Canada. Oh goody.

This Campaign is Over Already, Let’s Begin the Revolution

Forget the faint hope that the debates will turn things around for Mme. Dion (do you really think a man who can barely speak English is going to break through there?  That’s like expecting Preston Manning to pull off a win in 1997 based on his performance in the French debate).

Yes indeed, abandon hope all ye who enter here, for this campaign is not to tarry with substance or issue. Nay this is the campaign of the cult of the personality. And nothing says personality quite like Prime Minister Dress-Up reaching into his tickle trunk and pulling out a sweater vest while his minions fling pooh. And bravo to you oh valiant prince Yoshida for the scathing use of the feminine. With but one swift turn you have devastated the Liberal leader, as we all know, the sensitivities of women are unsuited to the rigours of political life. Except for Ste. Palin of the north. For her loins are girded in the steely conservative flannel of righteousness. Poor Dion, cut to the quick by the insinuation of femininity. Thank the gawds that women haven't been given the franchise.

And the debates, why prepare for those pesky rituals when one's opponent has an accent? A French one at that. Why, Steven of Large can just stand there before the cameras and smile his piggy little smile, basking in the approval of his base. The bigots and xenophobes, the ignorant and insecure, all of them armed with a vote. Fucking cakewalk. Ordinary working guy Steve. A guy so normal he's as pale as paste. A dude so average that you'd never know he had a degree in economics, the faculty that produces manly, swaggering, all-beef heroes and none of those girly, fem-faggoty, high brow artsie queer types. Aarrrr, economists, banes of the ivory tower, defenders against the fruity elite. Aarrrr. Saying their prayers and kicking ass before going to bed at a reasonable hour. And hey, nobody expected Preston Manning to pull off much of anything, except maybe the lead role in a Don Knotts tribute band.

Intrade puts the odds of a Tory win at 95%.  I would put them higher than that.  I would say that the odds of a Tory majority are, at this point, higher than 90%.

116% Conservative majority with no seats for homos or people with suspicious, foreign sounding names. All hail. But wait just a second... Tories? There aren't any Tories in this election. The Tories are dead and gone at the federal level, Brian Mulroney saw to that and Weepy Pete sold the corpse for nickels on the dollar. This is the Conservative Reform Alliance, not those washed out former conservative-lite pussies. You guys are like the Hannibal Lector of political parties, you've slashed the face off of the corpse of the old blue Tories and you're wearing like a mask. Still you are not Tories any more than Jack Layton is a Mullah.

Indeed, if I were asked to guess where we’ll finish up at the end of the day, I would say that we’re looking at a very large majority.  I think that two hundred is a realistic figure to be talking about at the moment.

Adam Yoshida is to realistic figures as Barbie is to realistic figures.

Let’s look at the facts – the facts that I’ve mentioned repeatedly.  As things stand, the left-wing vote in this country (even though that group includes a majority of the electorate) is divided three ways in English Canada and four ways in Quebec.  What that means, as I outlined at the outset of this campaign, is that a “Great Silent Plurality” of small-c conservative voters can form a strong majority government that can hold onto the government in this country for as long as that split persists.

Proof by repeated assertion. Suck it Socrates. So Yoshida's point is that most Canadians don't want to be ruled by the pocket fascists that he adores. Nope. In fact the majority of Canadians will have their wishes undone and their future twisted simply because they are burdened by choice, while the gawd bothering inbred team has no such troubles. They have a choice between retrograde ideologues and retrograde ideologues. Huzzah. What possible hope is there that "small-c conservatives" might opt to vote for the light libertarian Greens or the damaged centre of the Liberals? Couldn't happen. Why, three Prime Ministers ago, the Liberals were
Adscam Adscam Adscam. And the noble Conservatives under Stephen Harper haven't even been convicted of any of the crimes they committed. And besides, they hardly stole anywhere near as much money as the Liberals, with their Conservative In 'n' Out swindle they were using to scam Elections Canada.

The Liberals are done for.  No one wants to make Mme. Dion the Prime Minister (including, I would hazard, Dion based upon his dispirited performance so far).  And we’re not going to make Jack Layton the Prime Minister either.  That means that it’s Mr. Harper by default.

Ladies and gentlemen, the first truly honest endorsement of Mr Harper I have seen to date. Stephen Harper, by default.

I think that we could sharpen it – and put further tarnish on the Liberal brand – by pinning Dion to the ground and knocking him absolutely senseless but, in the end, a win is a win.

Now if the rhetorical shoe were on the other foot, this is where the Blogging Halfwits would piddle themselves and start squeaking that the mean, awful lieberuls were planning to assault the PM. And that's why he has to use the national police force to prevent citizens from expressing their views and keep anyone that doesn't have an ideological stamp of approval from getting anywhere near the PM's appearances. Fucking courage to spare! 911, c'mon bitches, you know you want to. Why is the Prime Minister so scared of Canadians, why is so afraid?

What the Prime Minister has to ask now – and he really does have to ask it now, since he won’t have very long to do it – is whether he wants to be another Brian Mulroney, a brief interlude between long-serving Liberal Prime Ministers, or whether he really wants to change this country decisively.

Yes Mulroney, Canada's second longest reigning PM, a man who was allegedly selling access and favours to foreign business men, to line his own pockets. Nothing like noble Steve who was only bilking Canadian taxpayers to shore up his grasp for power. But Adam asked a question Steve, are you just going to be a petty crook like Lyin' Brian or are you going to step the fuck up and really punch this country in the cock, grab hold and twist?

A Conservative majority government, especially under a strong leader like Prime Minister Harper, offers a chance to transform this country beyond all recognition.  The Liberals have been so successful in this country over the last four decades because they remade it in their own image, right down to the flag.  They put their stamp on every institution in this country – a Maple Leaf-shaped boot stamping down across the Canadian face forever.

Yeah. Canada, a boot on the throat of, um, white supremacists and Nazis? People Adam Yoshida can relate to, like free speakers who just want their gawd given right to defame innocent foreigners and gays, oh how they suffer under that liberal boot.

With a strong majority government – one not vulnerable to a confidence vote – the Prime Minister has the power to weather minor storms of public outrage and to use his five years to change this country in ways which will prove both popular and nearly impossible to undo.

Because the set term law doesn't apply to a minority and grows by a year when the Cons get a majority. That is political science in action.

In particular, I recommend that a Conservative government focus on the following:
1) Institutional demolition: The left-wing in this country relies upon government to keep itself running.  The Prime Minister has taken some vital first steps in this area by junking the Court challenges program and cutting funding to radical feminist groups but, with a majority, the best option would be to go much further.
Sell the CBC.  Junk most of the cultural subsides.  Get rid of the human rights Gestapo.  These, in the end, are “stroke of the pen, law of the land” sort of things.  If a Prime Minister with a majority government wishes them, they could be so.

Nothing says Canadian values like demolishing Canadian values. In his first paragraph, Yoshida admits that the majority of Canadians hold more liberal values, and approve of the status quo regarding the institutional structure of the nation. But fuck them. This is the big chance! This is the opportunity that they've been waiting for. Time to unleash the hidden agenda that they don't have. Time to burn the fucker down and rebuild it Con style. Human rights are for pussies, out of here. Social programs are for the weak, out of there. Culture is what we tell you it is and what we import for the television. Shut up and watch the reality TV.

Gut the CRTC.  Indeed, as I recommended before, the Prime Minister should forget his own copyright bill and instead pass the most liberal, progressive, and loose copyright bill in the Western world.  Yeah, that’ll hurt some people – but screw them, they’re not going to vote Tory anyways.

What does that even mean? Liberal and loose copyright law, is this fuckwit suggesting no protection for copyright holders or an enforcement regime that is liberal and loose in terms of invading individual privacy and using state policing mechanisms to round up and punish infringers? There's no telling quite what this addled loon is suggesting, I doubt he even knows what that mess means.

Do too much, rather than too little.  Don’t shift these things around. Burn them down and salt the Earth.  A future Liberal government won’t have the guts, the time, the wherewithal, or the money to recreate them all at once.  Sell the land and the buildings.  Shred the records. Disperse the staff.  It’s easier to destroy than it is to create.  A Tory government on a rampage could destroy in a couple of months what it took four decades to create – and what it would take another forty to recreate.

Two words: Scorched Earth!

2) Base Creation: At the same time as well tear apart the old Liberal nation, we need to create new institutions to replace the old.  With the money we’ll save, we can go to work on a new grand and nation-defining enterprise – rebuilding the Canadian military and turning it into the national symbol that it should be.

The Harper Youth Movement. The Blue Shirts. Next comes the Anschluss, we'll annex Michigan because we need the elbow room and a tropical retreat. Enough of feeding poor people and caring for sick people, we need guns and lots of 'em. Big guns. Canada, one nation under a helmet, in a trench, on the fucking march.

This is important not only for nationalistic reasons, but for basic political reasons.  A large-scale buildup of the Armed Forces will do more than prepare Canada to fight in an increasingly-dangerous world, but it will also create a powerful military-industrial complex that a future Liberal government would be loathe to confront.

"Nationalistic reasons" m'kay. And don't you mess with the brand new military industrial complex or there be a junta up your ass in no time.

Set as a goal that military spending should be, oh, roughly 3.5% of the GDP.  On the ground, translate that into an active force of 200,000 or so men – with all of the associated family members and spin-off jobs that will be created.  Buy as much equipment internally as possible, even if that makes it more expensive, because it will build an industrial base that can become a powerful lobbying force.

3.5% why... son of a bitch, that's about half of what the arts and cultural sector contributes to the economy. We'll be buying up all of those famous Canadian made weapons of war.

Build big things.  Canadians, for all that they claim to be a peace-loving people, want to love their country.  That’s why, in the absence of a more compelling national identity, they hold onto the things that they do.  Build a pair of Aircraft Carriers – giant, expensive, deadly, and useful symbols of Canadian pride that children can hang on their walls.  Name them after Wolfe and Montcalm or something like that.

Yes, Canadians want to love their country. But without giant munitions factories and tens of thousands of armed soldiers ready to pour into the streets of this or some other country, well, how can there be any love? Aircraft carriers? What the fuck is Yoshida smoking?

Oh, and well (sic) you’re at it, recreate the old individual services. Because it’s appealing – and because it’s a good and simple exercise of power.

Air Force, Army, Navy... sweet fucking Jeeziz Yoshida, now is the time to build the first dedicated Canadian Space Force. The friggin' Chinese are getting set to do it but if we can get our rockets up there we can use the mighty Canadarm to like, push them yellow fuckers off trajectory and pull off their antennas and shit. Canadian Space Fleet!

3) Crime, Crime, Crime: The Tories are campaigning on this a bit, but they should be doing it more – and they should do even more as a majority government.  Few things unify more Canadians than the conviction that our justice system is horribly soft.

Public executions for all, free popcorn. Buy the kids a flogger and a blood spattered t-shirt. We can do like the Saudis and build a chop-chop square in every city.

As I’ve said countless times, nothing is better than forcing your opponent to – out of conviction – defend people who everyone hates. The Liberals the left in general really believe in our horribly deformed justice system and many of them will go to the stake defending it.  What Harper needs is someone creatively evil to serve as the Justice Minister – or perhaps Deputy Minister (I’m not too busy!) to spend the next five years thinking up new ways of brutalize and humiliate criminals and which will send the left marching to the barricades time and time again to defend people who normal Canadians hate.

Aw isn't that adorable. Little Adam wants to be Canada's own Himmler when he grows up and gets his big boy jodhpurs. "Normal" Canadian people are filled with hate and want their government to practice brutality and "creative evil" on their behalf. And you do want to be normal don't you? You want to be a good Canadian... or else.

Of course, this is probably all a dream.  Stephen Harper has shown himself, in his time as both Tory leader and as Prime Minister, to be a cautious man.  The odds are that, winning a smashing majority; he will naturally conclude that he should go on doing exactly the same thing.
I'm sure that some Tories are reading this and saying to themselves, "for God's sake Yoshida, don't write anything like this - it'll scare people."  I wish, I wish.  Like I said - we're only going to get something like this, or even a tiny part of this, if we struggle for it and push for it.

Actual Tories would read your screed Yoshida and wonder whether there were a soft accommodation available for you. Some place with kindly nurses, colourful meds and a nice TV to keep you occupied in the afternoons.

To the extent that we might see anything of this sort, we have to begin talking about it now, thinking about it now, floating these ideas now, because the window of time in which a new majority might act is pretty small - a year, I'd say.

Here's a news flash for you Adam Yoshida, the cartoon left that you vilify and hate so deeply doesn't exist. There are however millions of rational Canadians that will stand up and fight your kind to the bitter end, to prevent seeing this nation turned into a tin-pot fascist state. You won't get your coup, you won't get your junta and you just plain won't get your way because the fantasy you've described here is at home on another continent, 70 years in the past. The entire world went to war to defeat that vision. Here's some news for you, we'd do it again too.

He should watch out, though, because after Dion (and remember, it was me who first told many of you that it would be Dion) is the Second Coming.  Unless we burn Trudeautopia to the ground, the son will soon be here to reclaim the legacy of the father.

I'm sorry Adam, who were you aspiring to become here, Himmler or Pilate? You are one deeply fucked cat and I applaud the Western Standard for airing your maniacal ramblings. It is best to see the villains in plain terms before they can strike. You go strap on your brownest blue shirt Adam. There's a good little fella, don't forget to let us know how your schemes for brutalizing and humiliating are coming along. There's a good little psycho.

It's not so much that she's a sleazy douchebag ...

... it's that she's unspeakably stupid as well. She's just our little Sarah, isn't she?

What he said.

Yes, I realize that it's time to move on from the Sarah Palin smackfest, but you really have to read this first. And, specifically, I draw your attention to the last paragraph:

In these times, for John McCain to have chosen this person to be his running mate is fundamentally irresponsible. McCain says that he always puts country first. In this important case, it is simply not true.

And that, in a nutshell, is why John McCain deserves to be reviled, for now and all time, as a traitor to his country. Given his age and medical condition, any sane person would have to realize that there was a good chance of him not living out his first term if he were elected, and if he died, his VP would have to step in and take over.

And to have had any number of qualified, experienced possibilities to choose from, for McCain to have bypassed all of them and tapped someone as hysterically airheaded and hideously unprepared as Sarah Palin proves, beyond any doubt, that John McCain holds his countrymen in utter and absolute contempt.

This was not a choice made with the best interests of his country in mind. This was a decision made with only John McCain in mind -- a Hail Mary, jaw-dropping choice whose only value was the possible novelty that might reinvigorate his flagging campaign. In short, it was, from John McCain to his American countrymen, the world's most monumental "Fuck you, this is all about me!" imaginable.

When history gets around to John McCain, it should simply have his picture, and the caption "Traitor." Nothing else would be appropriate.

P.S. There is, not surprisingly, increasing talk about Palin simply stepping down to spend more time, I don't know, getting her other kids knocked up or something. But Palin leaving the ticket should not get McCain off the hook. The fact that he chose Palin in the first place is something he should never, ever, ever be allowed to live down.

It’s funny because it’s true.

If only it wasn’t quite so frighteningly accurate.

Reality, SUZANNE. SUZANNE, reality.

Further to CC's post referencing the October surprise.

In an election campaign notable for its surprises, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice- presidential candidate, may be about to spring a new one — the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé before the November 4 election.
Inside John McCain’s campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. “It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week.”

Gosh, first a suspension of the campaign, now shutting it down for a week to encourage a media frenzy over a candidate's slutty daughter and her shit for brains prospective baby daddy. You'd almost think they wanted to distract voters from something. Perhaps the sucking hole that indicates a ticket comprised of a feeble, old gas-bag with anger issues, likely resulting from untreated PTSD and his running mate the insane religious lunatic from the northern woods. Oh, shiny thing! Anyway, on to more important issues of state. Perhaps SUZIE-Q would render some assistance here, if Bristol's baby is a person, whole and entire, from the moment of conception
and was conceived out of wedlock, does that make it an irredeemable bastard? Or do the rules change as long as l'il Ms Rinkrat has a ring on her finger before baby Snorkel arrives? After all, evil, old white man gawd has already cursed the poor little bugger with that family and original sin. Might as well go for the triple.

And if the McCain camp views this joining of the inbreds as a campaign saving moment, doesn't that put the poor widdle kiddies on the table as political whack-a-moles? Can't very well declare them off limits and whore them out at the same time. America wants details! Where did the fabulous conception take place? What about the foreplay, was it the traditional two Bud Lites and a hummer or straight to bizniz? Was it intentional, did Levi throw her the bone intending to knock her up, did Bristol take a pin to the rubber to get a baby and escape her sinister fundie mom or were they just too stupid to work a condom? Seems to me that Sarah Palin's failed parenting is back on the table as a political topic, given the stunt nuptials of momma Palin's little child bride.

Of course the other question that should be foremost in people's minds is, where will the burnings take place? You know, the witches and all. Wholly fuckin' Jeeziz people, Governor Palin must have pretty strong feelings about the witchcraft. She stood in front of her peers and fellow worshippers and allowed an important Pastor, straight from
deepest, darkest Africa to pray over her personally. Me, I'm hoping they rename Washington as New Salem and they can erect enormous pyres on the national mall to burn the unclean. Can't very well purify the nation and allow filthy witches and non-believers to roam free. I call on the news people of the world to ask the burning questions and reassure the population in these troubled times. What will Sarah do about the witches?

Sunday Funnies.

I think a double dose of Paul Newman would be just the thing on this grey, rainy Sunday morning, boys and girls.

Hark! What ho?

Back in Town, but Not on Capitol Hill
By Elisabeth Bumiller

Updated | 5:01 p.m.: Where was John McCain? Not on Capitol Hill.

After interrupting his presidential campaign to come back to Washington on Thursday morning to try to push forward a $700 billion bailout deal, Mr. McCain remained in his condominium in Arlington, Va., until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, when he emerged and made a one-minute trip in his motorcade to his campaign headquarters around the corner.

Mr. McCain, who arrived home at 4 a.m. Saturday from the presidential debate in Oxford, Miss, could be seen in his car talking on his cell phone. But there was no word from his campaign on who he was talking to, or the extent of his involvement in ongoing negotiations.

Um ...OK. So how was Grampy McSame planning on getting involved in these negotiations for which he was so desperately required? Oh, right (emphasis leg-humpingly added):

By mid-afternoon, Mr. McCain’s closest adviser, Mark Salter, told reporters that Mr. McCain would not go to Capitol Hill on Saturday but would make phone calls to try to push the deal along. “He’s calling members on both sides, talking to people in the administration, helping out as he can,’’ Mr. Salter said.

Helping ... by phone. Now that's fucking brilliant! Who could have thought of that? Who, I ask you? Oh:

It's also not clear why [McCain] couldn't just, you know, phone it in, unless he's still trying to come to grips with those high-falutin', new telephone doodad thingies.

Being right. All the time. It's a burden I've learned to live with.

When dumbshit, big-mouth Blogging Tories should keep their yaps shut.

Blogging Tory Luc Schulz tries to sound all grown-up and pundity and everything:

McCain will win

Obama is performing slightly better at tonight's presidential debate, simply because he is a better speaker but I want to go on record stating John McCain will be the next President of the United States.

He doesn't ring hollow when he speaks and he knows where he wants to go and why he wants to be President. Obama simply wishes to be President.

I am taking bets as of tonight...

Of course you are, dear. So let's talk numbers, shall we?

Blogger Luc Schulz, B.A. said...

I'm saying 10 to 1 that McCain wins.

Really? I am so in on that action, Luc. Let me get my chequebook. But wait ... what's this? David wants a piece of Luc as well:

David said...

If you're up for it, let's make it a formal agreement, then.

I've got $50 for you if Obama loses, if you've got $500 for me if Obama wins. Deal? Send me an email and we'll make a electronic agreement, and save them.

If you have online banking, the loser can pay the winner via email money transfer.

At which point, well, you saw this bit of urine-soaked weaselitude coming, right?

Luc Schulz, B.A. said...

Tempting, but no thanks, I don't have 500$ to risk on the outcome of an election.

Thanks for mouthing off playing, Luc. I'm guessing that tossing out he-man, studly challenges you eventually renege on is just one of those talents you learn over there at Stephen Taylor's Aggregator for the Criminally Moronic and Terminally Uneducated. I've kind of noticed that pattern, see?

P.S. By the way, Luc, if I were you, I'd be looking for a refund for all the money you spent on that B.A. Clearly, none of that fancy book larnin' stuck. I blame the school.

Apparently, after 72 years, John McCain still can't look a black man in the eye. That's a nasty habit he might want to try to break. I'm just sayin'.

Dr. Dawg speaks.

You listen.

Yes, now.

Heh.

Indeed.

On the other hand ...

Shorter Canadian Retard-o-sphere:

"Why should the government be in the business of subsidizing startup artists and musicians with taxpayer money? If those artists are going to eventually be commercially successful, they should get there on their own, with their own funds, and not come begging to the government for assistance to make it happen, bunch of freeloading parasites always looking for a handout."

Then there's Stephen the Corpulent (emphasis added):

Prime Minister Stephen Harper pledged help for small business Saturday as he prepared to take his campaign in an Atlantic province where the Tory premier has launched a public campaign to unseat federal Conservatives...

"We'll be helping those small businesses to grow and reach their potential," Harper said. The Conservatives will also index the lifetime capital gains exemption to inflation.

"The measures I am proposing today are modest, responsible and affordable steps," Harper said.

Intelligent readers will ponder the above and conclude, "Hey, you know, CC has something there, that's kind of ironic, isn't it?"

Canada's Blogging Tories will ponder the above and conclude, "I don't get it, what's his point? Hey, Marge, bring me another beer, willya? And hurry it up, The Dukes of Hazzard are about to start. It's the one where those boys get in trouble with Boss Hogg and jump that car over that thing."

Friday night rock 'n' roll.

Some of us took the evening off last night:

I'll bet you're jealous. Yeah, you are. You totally are.

Today is a very sad day.

Rest in peace, Mr. Newman ... you brought new meaning to the word "classy".

The dumbfuckitude that keeps on giving.

Once again, Sherman, into the waystupid machine:

What was gained? Nothing, except showing how scared the lefties are of Sarah Palin.

And then there's life away from Planet Bizarro:

Advantages to Picking an Experienced Running Mate

I’ve seen Joe Biden doing aggressive surrogate appearances on every network I’ve flipped to. I imagine he’s hitting all of them. Sarah Palin, by contrast, isn’t doing any networks.

No, that one's not going to get old any time soon. Deal with it.

Sarah Palin: Setting back the cause of womens' political equality about 80 bazillion years.

YO, HUNTER! This is what the sane people are thinking these days:

Just so you know.

P.S. Fuck you, Wolf, you ass-kissing toady.

Paging Godwin …

Godwin? Please pick up the white supremacist courtesy phone.

As Hurricane Gustav loomed off the coast of Louisiana, thousands of impoverished people flocked into shelters, where some of them seemed unprepared to take care of their young children's basic needs, forgetting to bring along diapers or medicine.

That heartbreaking scenario inspired Louisiana Republican State Rep. John LaBruzzo to start thinking about ways to stem generational welfare, in which many welfare recipients have children who also end up dependent on government assistance, according to the representative.

His idea -- giving $1,000 to poor women to undergo reproductive sterilization by Fallopian tube ligation -- is stirring up controversy among some medical professionals, who say that the proposal is offensive and smacks of long-discredited eugenics programs.

LaBruzzo has also suggested other controversial ideas: paying poor men to get vasectomies and giving tax incentives for college-educated wealthy couples to have more children.

You should really read the whole thing. I, on the other hand, am going back to bed and pretending that I never read it in the first place.

What Obama should have said.

"Ladies and gentlemen, several times this evening, my opponent has criticized me for lack of 'experience.' And you know what? He has a point. Because, when it comes to this election and the consequences it could have for this country, experience is vital. Given the current international political situation, I think it's safe to say that nothing -- absolutely nothing -- matters more than experience.

"And that's why, when it came to choosing a running mate, that's exactly what I took into account. When it came to choosing a running mate, I thought about it long and hard, and finally chose Joe Biden. A man with years of experience in the Senate. And a man who is currently Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. Because experience mattered to me. And that's why I asked Joe Biden to run with me.

"And as for John McCain, who keeps belittling my lack of 'experience?' Apparently, he thought about it long and hard as well. And when the time came, who did he pick as a running mate, who should be prepared to step in on a moment's notice and take over? A 45-year-old, self-described 'hockey mom' from Alaska. Someone with no foreign relations experience whatsoever. Someone who only got her passport two years ago. Someone who thinks she has foreign policy experience because Alaska is across the sea from Russia. Someone who still thinks Iraq had something to do with 9/11. Someone who didn't know what the 'Bush Doctrine' was. Someone who wasn't even aware that we have already committed to a fixed date for a withdrawal from Iraq! And someone who even his Republican colleagues have openly admitted is hopelessly unqualified for the post of vice-president, much less president.

"Senator McCain wants to stand up here and lecture me about the necessity for 'experience,' yet his choice for a vice-presidential running mate makes a joke of that. I understand why experience matters, and that's why Joe Biden is on my team. And let me tell you, Senator, when it comes to having experience in my administration, I don't need to make any apologies to anyone on that score. Can you say the same?"

Saturday Morning Cartoons.

A little prophetic global warming humour this morning, boys and girls.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Oopsie ... didn't think that one through, did we, Stephen?

AFTERSNERK: It occurs to me that Stephen the Pustulent has just given carte blanche to the organizers of Canadian public galas everywhere to explicitly disinvite members of the Stephen Harper Party of Canada. After all, we wouldn't want to put those poor right-wing fuckwits in an awkward conflict of interest, would we?

"Hello, is this John Q. Conservative Party Member? Yes, about the upcoming public reception to celebrate the opening of the new town arts centre. We appreciate that you've already been invited but, under the circumstances, you'll understand if we'd rather you fucked right off, you snotty, classless boor. Buh bye."

Yes, I think numerous prominent Conservatives are suddenly going to have "scheduling conflicts" when it comes to upcoming public get-togethers. But that's OK -- it leaves more hors d'oeuvres for people with, you know, culture.
