The litter box liner and amazingly absorbent National Post meticulously peruses its Rolodex to find an utterly irrelevant non-entity to vent a little outrage:
Theo Caldwell on abortion and Morgentaler's Order of Canada: Every child is a Gift of God
Posted: July 02, 2008, 5:37 PM by Marni Soupcoff
I'm sorry ... who exactly is Theo Caldwell and why should I care about his opinion on this topic? Oh:
I was proud that my father removed his own hard-earned Order of Canada immediately upon hearing of Morgentaler’s accolade...
Theo Caldwell, president of Caldwell Asset Management, Inc., is an investment advisor in the United States and Canada.
Ah ... so Mr. Caldwell's father is an Order of Canada recipient, and Mr. Caldwell himself is a ... businessman. Heady qualifications, indeed. And as for Caldwell's grip on logic and actual facts, well, it's not encouraging:
Every child is important, and they are all wanted by someone.
A touching sentiment, indeed, Mr. Caldwell, except for that pesky reality:
Consider, too, that the children currently available for adoption in Canada are disproportionately burdened with problems of one kind or another. Many suffer from physical problems such as fetal alcohol syndrome. Many are toddlers, or even older children, not infants, who have been seized from abusive homes by Children’s Aid Societies and made wards of the state by the courts. Would-be parents may be unwilling to take on the extra challenges that such children pose, but would happily take on the care of an uninjured, pre-born baby without undesirable psychological baggage.
Yes, Mr. Caldwell ... every child wanted by someone ... unless they're damaged in some way, then they're not such a keeper, are they? At least, not by your sanctimonious, Bible-thumping fellow travellers.
And as for your precious dad, Mr. Caldwell, well, he's more than welcome to turn in his OoC if he's that offended. Perhaps that would be just as well -- that award should be reserved for those who aren't quite so intolerant.
