Pay no attention ... it's just Twatrick.

I already addressed this in a comment on a previous post but it's just so gosh-darned precious, I figured I had to share it again. Here's pathological dissembler Patrick Ross, staunchly defending the scientific credentials of one Preston Manning:

Manning also has a background in research, having worked for a San Francisco-based research firm.

Really, questioned I:

Curiously, Twatsy provides no link to let us verify this for ourselves, but a brief online search turns up this, which would seem to be what Twatsy is creaming himself over. And yet, if you peruse the pages of PRI, there is absolutely no mention of one Preston Manning. And if Preston is proud of his tenure at PRI, he certainly isn't showing it

Twatsy then tries to defend that claim, but still in a curiously vague and unspecified way:

Think Big, page 19 - Manning spent time working for Bechtel Research & Development, performing sheilding calculations for failities storing spent nuclear fuel rods, as well as studying the economic viability of laser and maser technology.

Hmmmmm ... how odd ... one wonders why this information isn't more prominent when one does a Google search on Manning. And, more curiously, how is it that someone who never even got an undergraduate science degree of any kind would be given a "research" position analyzing "failities" [sic] for nuclear "sheilding" [sic]?

Oh, wait, it all becomes clear:

Once again, we turn to Think Big. This time, however, we turn to page 19, where we discover that, while studying in his honours physics program, Manning worked during the summer for Bechtel Research and Development, where he performed shielding calculations for facilities which were to store spent nuclear fuel rods.

Pause.

Long pause.

Very, very, very long pause.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

In other words, the vaunted "research" that Twatsy has been bragging about all this time was when Manning was an undergraduate student on a summer work term.

I repeat, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! But, wait ... it doesn't even end there.

What's hilarious is that Twatsy knew this from the get-go, and took excruciating pains to conceal it. It's obvious that Twatrick has been poring over Manning's magnum dopus "Think Big," which he openly admits describes on p. 19 exactly what Manning's "research" "work" was all about. But notice how Twatsy took such great care not to openly reveal that.

In his first pass, Twatsy was maddeningly vague:

Manning also has a background in research, having worked for a San Francisco-based research firm.

In his second attempt, Twats continues to leave out the salient details:

Think Big, page 19 - Manning spent time working for Bechtel Research & Development, performing sheilding calculations for failities storing spent nuclear fuel rods, as well as studying the economic viability of laser and maser technology.

Only when he finally has no choice does Twatsy admit the ugly truth:

Once again, we turn to Think Big. This time, however, we turn to page 19, where we discover that, while studying in his honours physics program, Manning worked during the summer for Bechtel Research and Development, where he performed shielding calculations for facilities which were to store spent nuclear fuel rods.

A summer student. He was an undergrad summer student, Twatsy, you stupid fuck. And you knew that the whole time, and you only admitted it when you had no choice.

What a twatsy. What a complete and utter twatsy.

AFTER BOOT-TO-THE-NADS: There's just so much dishonesty in Twatrick's prose, and here's another delightful example. Remember Twatsy's initial claim (emphasis added):

Manning also has a background in research, having worked for a San Francisco-based research firm.

Really? A San Francisco-based "research firm"? Is that what Bechtel is? From Bechtel's own web page:

Bechtel is one of the world's premier engineering, construction, and project management companies.

Hmmmm ... how odd ... no mention of "research." Of course, we all know how Twatrick will respond to this -- that they have a research and development department (as do most companies), which logically implies that Bechtel is a "research firm."

No, it doesn't but, by now, you're getting a good idea of how Twatsy spins reality, don't you? With Twatsy, you're never getting the straight goods. There's always a little spin here, a little misrepresentation there. You know -- like how simply having an R&D department suddenly makes construction company Bechtel a "research firm."

It's just how Twatsy operates. But I'm sure you've noticed that by now.

ONE EXTRA TOWEL SNAP: I realize it's pointless to keep harping on Twatsy's hopeless dishonesty, but here's a simple question Twats is welcome to address if he's up to it.

Originally, Twats made Presto's scientific research background sound terribly, terribly impressive:

Manning also has a background in research, having worked for a San Francisco-based research firm.

Upon further inspection, we eventually learned (to our unending amusement) that all of that "research" experience involved undergrad summer work. But let us not get side-tracked by debating whether that counted as actual research. No, let us ask Twats a very simple, yes/no question, which is:

Twatsy: When you made that original, high-falutin' claim about Presto's background, were you in fact already aware that it involved an undergraduate summer work term (or maybe two)?

Really, that's a pretty straightforward question, isn't it? It isn't open to interpretation or misrepresentation, is it? Just yes or no, Twats -- did you already know what that vaunted "research" background consisted of? I think we'd all like to know. Just for the fun of it.

Utterly pathetic, isn't he?

The boy is a complete waste of time.

What am I saying all the time? dumbest generation. The ignorance is matched only by the dishonesty and the hostility.

for failities storing spent nuclear fuel rods,

Failities?

That sounds like something that would be very bad around nuclear fuel rods.

CC might be a meanie but he's no Perennially Crazed High Priestess of Sycophantic Groupthink ... so there.

To me, it sounds like a perfect description of Patrick's posts. Nothing but failities.

Catastrophic failities.

So Parson Manning was filling in for Homer Simpson over the summer?

So Parson Manning was filling in for Homer Simpson over the summer?

In fairness, Preston Manning is a fairly smart person - just not someone with what I consider an adequate background in science for the post in question.

And still he's hopelessly flailing away. Unbelievable.

Dumbest blogger. Ever.

In Mr. Ross' imaginary world, everyone in the progressive blogosphere is an hypocritical, intellectually challenged, clueless and factless ideologue (including yours truly), while he towers above all of us minables with his giant intellect, his impressive knowledge and his admiring, meticulous precision with facts.

And yet, he can't be consistent with himself (of course). Consider his current, ah, "argument" concerning the probity and relevance of Manning's, ah, "scientific background", with his previous arguments to support his (ridiculous) excoriation of Matt Bin's expertise on things military. To whit:

"Sadly, experience does not necessarily equal expertise. Matt Bin's recent remarks have panned out to be proof of that."

Of course, now he is aguing exactly that in the current case of Manning, experience does equal expertise (even if we're alking about nothing more than one or two undergrad summer stints, here) in order to support his contention that Manning's "scientific background" is relevant to make him an expert on things scientific.

Mr. Patrick Ross: a true, pathetic incompetent.

Q.E.D. yet again ...

Preston Manning ought to be smart enough to decline the offer.

Offering it to Manning is an egregious example of patronage by Harper, which only shows he cares less than two shits about science, because it means that Harper passed over literally thousands of retired scientists, who actually might have some informed criticism on Canada's science policy (which is a combined conservative and liberal failure).
