Well, this should be fun …

Oh. My. God. Could Big Daddy be just a little more obvious in his immigrant-vote pandering? If this doesn’t get the Ass Monkey, KKKate and Five Feet of Crazy™ frothing at the mouth, nothing will. After all, you know what this means, right? More Mooozlimzzzzz and scary brown people!!1!111!!!11!

From yesterday’s Windsor Star:

Representatives of seven local organizations were clearly astonished Wednesday when they learned of the size of a federal funding announcement - $13.3 million for them to share, to upgrade the programs they offer to help new Canadians settle and prosper in Windsor and Essex County.

In announcing the funding Wednesday, the area's only government MP Jeff Watson (C - Essex) told more than 100 clients and program providers at Windsor's New Canadians Centre for Excellence that the new funding will go beyond providing basic services. The money, he predicted, will ultimately spur the battered region's economic resurgence.

"The organizations we salute today provide valuable services that are important to Canada's growth," said Watson. "By the year 2012, immigration will account for all of the net growth in Canada's labour force .... We need them to succeed and this government is committed to helping them succeed."

The government described the new funding as "the largest single federal contribution ever made for newcomers to our community." It is to be distributed by the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, over the next two years.

Many were quick to suggest the extra funding will pay off and result in their clients - 7,500 newcomers to the Windsor area - integrating more quickly, resuming or beginning well-paying careers and spurring entrepreneurship and new investment.

Just for giggles — read the comments. Don’t be surprised if you feel your IQ actually dropping in the process.

(Hat tip to Red for the email heads-up.)

I think they've miscalculated how many votes they'll lose among Windsor's Hard-Working Families Who Pay Their Taxes™. Just regular folk. And for the most part they don't need any more fucking immigrants.

That's my guess, not my sentiment. I'm from Windsor.

What are all those hard-working taxpayers doing all day that they have all the time in the world to bitch constantly about issues they don't understand (like cost/benefit analysis) and that really don't affect them?

...not out in the fields, in the woods, in the mines, or on the assembly line, obviously.

¢rÄßG®äŠŠ — My condolences on being from Windsor. What a dismal shithole.

I don't recall there being much of a thriving immigrant community in the area (not counting older generations of Greeks and Italians...) which makes plunking down this generous sum of money in the area a bit puzzling. Who knows what they'll do next? Maybe drop a few hundred thousand to spruce up the Black History Museum in Amherstburg...

But more seriously, as I suggested to LuLu last night, it begs the question of what other expenses like this the Conservatives are discretely dropping in urban communities as they attempt to curry favour with immigrant communities....

Not that the money isn't being well spent and is perhaps long overdue, but it runs counter to the rhetoric from their supporters which is decidedly anti-immigrant (as evidenced for example in the comments section to that article).
