The "Canadian Dumbfuck Wanker Challenge." Part deux.

[Post-dated to hang around, so read it.]

Just in case you weren't sure about this challenge, I am, in fact, deadly serious, and I want you to take it just as seriously. Let me recap, if I might.

Canada's Retard-o-sphere (aka The Blogging Tories) are constantly pissing and moaning about how we leftists ... well, we progressives ... well, OK, me and my two co-bloggers ... are terrible, horrible, no good, very bad people because we use the kind of language normally reserved for late-night porn or private sessions between Father Murphy and little Billy in the confession booth long after the parishioners have fled the building.

Conversely, we on this side of the sanity line constantly accuse the BTs of being pig-ignorant hypocrites or just flat-out lying douchebags. Hence, this challenge, in which I want the members of Canada's progressive blogging commmunity to be calm, cool and collected for a whole 24-hour stretch, while everyone over there in the Wank-o-sphere tries to be honest for the same period.

So, let's hear it. I want to see comments from other progressives signing on, as well as links to this challenge from other blogs, just to prove that, yes, we are capable of spending a whole day simply addressing the issues in a mature and grown-up kind of way. And when that's over, we'll see just how well the other half did.

They can, of course, choose not to play, but if that's the case, they will no longer have any moral authority to bitch about our language, since we'll have earned the right to reply, "Fine. So we're rude, and you're pathological liars. The difference is, we can choose not to be rude when we feel like it."

So let's go. Let's see some comments from people willing to give this a shot, and let's see some links to get the word out. It's for only 24 hours, and I'm pretty sure you can afford to keep your inner asshole in check for that long.

I'm counting on it.

P.S. And try to keep the comments on-topic. I realize you folks love to free associate in that delightful, stream-of-consciousness, Joycean way but, just this once, try to focus. Surprise me.

P.P.S. By the way, holding your tongue for 24 hours doesn't mean simply stepping away from the keyboard. You still have to blog, and you still have to blog well, and you still have to subject stupidity and dumbassitude to mockery and ridicule. And if you want to do it with wicked wit and snark, that's cool, too. You just have to do it in a family-rated way, that's all.

CC’s right – enough bitching and moaning. While I understand and agree with Dave’s point perfectly, I think CC’s on to something here. The fuckwits who comprise the Right aka the Moronosphere (what? it’s not Monday yet) disregard every single argument from progressives, no matter how logical or factually correct, simply because we swear. And when that one gets old, someone like Aaron comes along and shifts the goalposts based on our pseudonymity. So that’s enough.

Are you in or out? CC is, PSA is and I am - and seriously, don’t you want to see if we can actually pull it off? After all, it’s not like the wankers on teh Right will be able to. Not swearing is easy ... telling the truth? Not so much.

I will do my best to be polite, kind, and clean.

Mr. CC, Ms. Lulu and Mr. PSA:
Though I am but a mere commenter, and generally avoid swearing, I will raise it to the level of no swearing at all.

This includes avoiding the cop out of using swear words substituted with punctuation characters, and avoiding the the grade school kind of "technically not swearing" things like "kiss my donkey" or "holy ship". I will also avoid language that references religious figures in a way that could be seen as derogatory.

I will remain anonymous, however, despite Mr. ALW and Mr. PR's sneering, since I do not wish to be harassed in my real life.

Sincerely,
LS

Like Liberal Supporter, I typically refrain from profanity, preferring to let others -- who are far more skilled in this area -- provide the necessary, blue-tinged emphasis. I wonder if, on March 31, I should drop the restraint and tell the wingnuts what I really think of them?

Or maybe LS and I need to establish Troll Day on April 1, where we don (multiple) pseudonyms and make endless comments on SDA, Richard's place, and so on. Seems fitting, somehow.

Then again, I'll be out of the country and, hopefully, away from the net next week, so I'll have to see what happens when I get back.

I will be keeping a very close eye on you, Mr. Scoville - you're the worst of the bunch ;-)

As a southern neighbor blogger that enjoys the usage of blue language (what better kind for liberals?) I will also refrain from one day.

Won't make a bit of difference. As Lulu pointed out, they'll just move the goalposts or ignore the content entirely.

I like the idea of left-wing troll day (I add the "left-wing" because it occurs to me that every day is troll day for many members of the right) quite a lot...

And yeah, as a commentator I'll refrain from exercising my rights of freedom of speech and not swear....

Yes, LuLu, I am such a potty-mouthed wretch.

Whooee! CC, I'm all fer civility, as yer probbly aware. Once in a while a filthy, racist sumbitch needs tellin' or some numbnuts needs remindin' but mostly, I hold off on the name-callin' on accounta it don't really win any arguments -- even if it feels good at the time. I'll join yer Monday effort but it won't be too tough fer a diplomatic an' polite pergressive booger like me.

Personally, I'd like to see a progressive blogburst that addresses the deceptiion of the so-called moronosphere. Doing civility is as easy as they do it...it's not hard to substitute "cunt" for "intemperate individual" or any non-profane formulation between those two extremes. But we are avoiding the issue that causes us all to righteously become uncivil in the first place: the sheer and blatant dishonesty that is trotted out by "conservatives" as legitimate discourse.

Yes!!! I'm in ... I can do this. I welcome the challenge.

I'm in as well.

Ill use the Queens English for one day...lol. Dunno about Prole and I won't speak for her, but I know she could handle it...
Our supposed "rudeness" is at least intellectually honest.

We all know how this will end don't we?

Red Tory said...

Seems like a silly exercise to me.

We all know that their prim affectations of "civility" and "family friendly" discourse are as phony as a three dollar bill, whereas their intellectual dishonesty and profound hypocrisy are as limitless as the deep blue sea.

Being French-Canuck and all it is second nature to drop a calisse de crisse de tabarnak d'ostie de ciboire de testament about every third sentence. I'm sure that would be doubly offensive to the BTs - them Frenchies even swear sacreligiously.

Yes, but we're really kind of praying when we're doing it, so it's OK...Jesus-approved, even.

Are you allowed to use bad words if they're in the bible?

Sydney said...

well sure, I can do that. But I have always been a bit of a keener nice chick. And, I am a new political blogger - but I am sure I will be soured and sullied soon.

Ti-Guy said...

Are you allowed to use bad words if they're in the bible?

Only if you write them in grammatical Aramaic or koine Greek.

Dave said...

OK. I share Red Tory's view.

I have a caveat (Hey ROEs are ROEs).

I speak only for myself. But if one of the other side fires on that white flag, I declare it a free fire zone.

I've been relatively civil. And I've avoided direct engagements with these clowns. The result is to be attacked.

When they're getting their marching orders from the CPoC operations centre, I don't feel much compunction to treat them as human beings. Suzy All Caps in particular and whatever persona Jeff T is adopting on a particular day when his medication has worn off.

I'll play but only so long as the playing field remains level. If they fuck it up, the gloves come off.

Whisper: We're still allowed to eviscerate without using George Carlin's identified words... right?

Let the euphemisms fly!

By the way, I feel compelled to point out something that our good host CC may have overlooked in the formulation of his challenge. No matter how “family friendly” or “sanitized for the protection of wingnuts” your language may be for the day in question, it’s certain to all be in vain because almost undoubtedly you will nonetheless be tarred with that other damning complaint of these insufferable nitwits: NAMECALLING. Employed in a similar fashion to their bleating about profanity, this charge occupies slightly lower tier on their litany of keening and moaning because there’s an obvious degree of complete hypocrisy involved. But of course, the wingnuts are undeterred by such piffling considerations. Even though they’re quite free themselves with terms like “leftards” and slagging everyone in sight as a “fascist” and/or “commie” it doesn’t prevent them from getting on their high horses and contemptuously sniffing about the atrocious “namecalling” (also referred to as “ad homs”) that “leftists” are prone to indulging in.

I think we need to come up with an official "Rules of Engagement". Questions? Comments? Suggestions?

oh drat and doggone-it. I just used the F word in a previous post. Can I try again, like a second virginity thingy?

jj said...

900 - If I'm not mistaken (check CC's original post), it's only Monday March 31st that is "Progressive Civility In Blogging Day".

Curse all you want until Sunday at 11:59pm. I know I will.

Pale said...

Pacific or Eastern?
Leave it to the Cons to not be able to decipher time zones....Or, to certain ones to move that goalpost too....Thats how they think yanno.
Fair is only fair when it is in their favour.

CC said...

jj's right ... until 11:59 Sunday night, the Blogging Tories are still a bunch of worthless, hypocritical, cock-sucking douchebags. And that's on a good day.

And whatever time zone works for you. I'll give you that much.

Aw, gee, shucks, and just when I was learning to swear, too.

I can't speak for the rest of our gang, o' course, but this is going to be so hard for me. Howsomever, I shall try. Intelligent, well-mannered, mature, grown-up and yet devastating skewer of some blogging sociopath or other -- that means I have to read at least one of them, doesn't it? Oh, woe is me.

I don't think I can do it.
