So ya think ya know your tunes?

I'll take "Who the crap are those people, Alex?" for $200. WARNING: Make sure you skip the last few seconds of that first vid where Dave gives it away at the end:

Had to peek at the first one. But Stanley plonking away on the Alembic bass is the man guilty of unleashing the plague of slapping and popping bass on the culture of pop music. Didn't notice him in the back or the Letterman clip, too busy hating the wanker that played guitar in the old house band. Nice to see Stewart Copeland behind him on the kit though.

i recognized copeland instantly. took me a few to realize that was clark (biggest thumb in all of bassdom!). not familiar with the group, though.

Who is Animal Logic? Alex.

I actually knew the song in the first clip. Why I don't know for ceratin. Probably because it was on heavy radio roatation back then and it wormed its way into my brain. But I do recall thinking back in the day that band was a really, really bad idea.

Seeing Clarke in the second clip sealed it as far as the name of the group. That was a version of his 'School Days' from the same titled debut solo album (1976?) and as a bass player myself I would be remiss in not knowing that one. (Although I don't 'slap and pop' very much and don't really like to do it very much).

PSA, not sure that Clarke is completely responsible for all that popping and slapping - see Larry Graham. And then Bootsy and Louis Johnson. Explodes from there.

i think graham would admit that clark's technique blows him outta the water, but, yeah, graham sorta got it started. still, slap comes from rockabilly; graham added the pop.
