I believe the word I'm looking for here is "vindicated."

Into the wayback machine, Sherman, back to the days when Canada's wankers still lived in their little, hermetically-sealed cocoons:

Myths and the US Military

Combat Jump Star has a synopsis of common myths about the US military. For those who don’t know CJS, he’s a duel [sic] citizen of Canada and the United States and has served 2 tours in Afghanistan and 1 in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne…. ( I dare you to tell him that the 82nd is the “little sister” of the 101st). Check out his debunking of some common myths; myths by the way, that are MSM or Leftist boilerplate:

1. All or most soldiers are rednecks from the South.

2. Minorities are being used as "cannon fodder" on the front lines.

3. Soldiers are uneducated, or less educated than their peers outside the Military

4. Recruiting is down

You know what's coming, don't you? Yes, you do:

Military Lowers Standards To Fill Ranks
The Army Is Taking Chances On Recruits With Rap Sheets

(CBS) The longer the war continues, the harder it's proving to fill the U.S. Army's ranks. A strong economy also means there are easier jobs around.

So the Army is accepting a growing number of new recruits with everything from health and weight issues to lower academic test scores to criminal records.

The number of incoming soldiers with prior felony arrests or convictions has more than tripled in the past five years. This year alone, the Army accepted an estimated 8,000 recruits with rap sheets, reports CBS News correspondent Kimberly Dozier.

There's a lesson here that we progressives would like to point out to you conservatives, and it's this: We are always right, and you are always wrong. The sooner you can come to grips with that, the better off we'll all be. I'm just sayin'.

Pretty much. The trap conservatives fall into is to believe things they have no way of knowing and to use the opinion of others (who also may have no way of knowing) as evidence.

Conservatives don't seem to like evidence all that much. It's bizarre.

Who the hell is saying this? I've got a brother in law who is on his third ( might be forth ) deployment to Iraq. I've got a buddy who's little brother just earned some commendation for bravery because he carried a couple of wounded soldiers out of the line of fire. I've got another buddy who is getting ready for his first deployment and another friend who's in the Air Force who's been over there I have no idea how long.

None of these people are rednecks or southerners and I don't know that I've ever heard anybody ( left right or center ) make a comment like that. I'd be pretty damned irritated if someone said it around me. Not only is it demeaning to the southerners that I know it's also demeaning to the northern and western folks that are over there getting shot at right now.

And it doesn't matter where they are from. These people are patriots who answered the call of their nation to fight - however immoral and the war or the lies behind it might be.

To to the wingnuts: "Stop making shit up so you can stroke your political ego."

Not so fast, sunshine. Where in the CBS article did it say military "recruiting is down"? That's right: Nowhere.

Yeesh. You really know how to reach far to claim your brilliance, don't you, Stretch?

Did you even stop to consider that the military is trying to increase in ranks to meet its needs? This is not the same thing as saying "recruiting is down." It's saying that quotas are not being met. There's a difference, Stretch.

(And read that garbage article carefully. It says that "incoming soldiers with prior felony arrests or convictions has tripled in the past five years." It then tries to imply that there are 8000 felons in the army, but later it makes it clear that they increase has resulted in 100 convicted felons "in the past year"! From what? 33 five years ago? The whole point of the article was that there are felons in the military. Yes there are. About 100 or so.)
