We're (theologically) No. 1!

Via K-Dough's Canada, we learn that religious tolerance has its limits:

Pope claims primacy of Catholic Church

Pope Benedict XVI has reasserted the universal primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document published today that says Orthodox churches were defective and that other Christian denominations were not true churches.

Added Pope Ratzo the First, in response to a question from a crowd of journalists, "And don't even get me started on the Jews."

THIS IS WHY YOU CAN"T DEBATE THESE PEOPLE.
Not surprisingly, Canadian screech harpy and whining, right-wing harridan Kate McMillan redefines the English language to downplay Pope Ratzo's overwhelming intolerance:

Pope Endorses Catholicism

I'm shocked - shocked - I tell you.

Really, Kate, you dishonest douchebag? Is that all he did? Let's follow Kate's own link to read (emphasis added):

Pope Benedict has approved a new text asserting that Christian denominations outside Roman Catholicism are not true Churches in the full sense of the word.

Wow. That's kind of, like, not at all what you suggested, Kate, is it? But Kate's addendum is the icing on the wanker cake:

Update, from the comments - Kathy Shaidle recommends Mark Shea's response to the media reports. "Exactly what Rome did *not* say is that the Catholic Church is the 'only true Church'. Never mind. It makes a short headline for journalists who cannot be bothered to think."

Ah, the pedantry. So, the Pope didn't claim that the Catholic Church is the one true Church, only that all other churches are not true churches.

Yes, these are the people who will argue how many angels can fit on the head of a pin, and if they went back to debating such idiotic irrelevancies and left the rest of us the fuck alone, I suspect we'd all be the better off for it.

My favourite bit--
Despite the harsh tone of the document, it stresses that Benedict remains committed to ecumenical dialogue.

"However, if such dialogue is to be truly constructive, it must involve not just the mutual openness of the participants but also fidelity to the identity of the Catholic faith," the commentary said.

or shortened--
"We can discuss anything you want, as long as you know I'm right"
This should fit right in with the mindset of some of the Catholics I know

I just love the intelligent repartee in the comments over there. One person, with the attitude of a knowing insider, says Benedict is using this as a ploy for free publicity, then adds - "Crafty." (nod, nod, wink nudge)

Fuck!!!!! I say it over and over!!! I am glad there is a 403 error (forbidden) when you click on your links to there from here (I have to copy the address, go to google or some 'nuetral' site and paste it to get the pages to display at SDA) because I need to not go see this level of sheer vapidity charading as witty exchange

My mother, who is in her mid to late 60s was here when I saw this entry so I read it out to her. Now she was born and raised not just RC but Irish Catholic at that, and is still a devout RC herself. Her comment to me was and I quote” Is that person completely insane or simply a fucking moron?" to the idea that somehow the headline was a misrepresentation of what the statement by the Papacy regarding other sects of Christianity not being true churches in the full sense of the word. Her next comment is that if anything succeeds in driving her away from her Church and Faith it will be the actions of such so called Catholics and the actions of this Pope in their favour in how the Church operates. She was already very annoyed over the revival of the Latin Mass including the old digs against Jews even though she had always missed her Latin Masses from when she was growing up. In short my mother is hardly a radical Catholic, and she finds the actions of this Pope offensive and hard to accept and the reactions of those that not only defend but praise these actions as a betrayal of true Catholicism. Yet somehow according to such folks it is we progressives that refuse to allow religion a role in governing our secular society that are the real threat/danger to the Faith and they are the ones that will save it. The irony of their delusions being the most likely cause for the further isolation and marginalization of the Roman Catholic Church and Faith in Canada/the Western world of course is totally lost on them.

It would be nice if these folks actually read and comprehended the words attributed to Christ in the Bible, that way they might have a hope at understanding at just how much they are perverting his message and corrupting the Faith they claim is so important to them and indeed all humanity whenever they defend their actions/statements.

Ah, good ol' Pope Adolf; you can take the boy out of the Party but you can never take the Party out of the boy. Just the kind of guy you want leading a world religion: an ignorant, repressive misogynistic, homophobic, pedophiliac, fascist putz...
