She comes not to bring peace but some serious kick-ass. Theoretically speaking.

In response to Damian Penny's eminently sensible take on the dumbfuckitude of people like Mark Steyn (yes, that's a tautology -- deal with it), Canada's Batshit Crazy Deranged Catholic™ Kathy Shaidle grabs her testicles and proceeds to channel her inner Soldier of Fortune:

Running away -- it's the new bravery!

So it's a good thing that these students (and apparently you, Damian) have dutifully absorbed their state sponsored, Oprah approved victim training?

Canadian "conservativism" just gets odder all the time...

Damian, remind me never to get on a plane with you, m'kay?

This from a screeching, spittle-flecked wingnut who doesn't allow comments on her blog. I'm thinking Kathy has a different definition of "bravery" from those of us who are, you know, sane.

Could be worse.

She could be getting paid for her insane opinions, instead of running a free blog. Like, say, John Derbyshire.

These people never cease to amaze me. I really thought that "if everyone had a gun there would be no tragedies" was crazy enough - and in fact, I expected them to go there. But now it seems like half of them are in the "if I'd been there I would have gone B.A. Baracus on his ass" category of crazy.

I think in Shaidle's case, however, she's not so much saying that she would have been a hero but rather that she would have expected the nearby men to do the job...

Long live the free market! In Canada, anyway. No one has ever paid La Shaidle for anything that puling shrew ever wrote...not for long, anyway.

I don't know why she hasn't moved to the States yet. She'd clean up down there.

Yes, exactly. She can be as cowardly as she likes, while she sends the Manly Men nearby to die on her behalf. 'Cos that's what a Traditional Lady would do.

You know, all the way back in 1368 in The Book of the Duchess, Chaucer had some pretty venomous things to say about Traditional Ladies who had that kind of attitude. So much for the Good Old Days, y'know? As usual, they never existed except in the right-wingers' minds.

It's hilarious to read that comment thread. She's scolding the connie boys for being delusional fabulists too wrapped up in virtual reality to recongise real virtue and nobility (which she can 'cause she's read a lot of books about those things).

Man, she has the slowest learning curve of any blogger I can think of.

Anyway, I'm blaming the VTech massacre on the free market. There. I wrote it, therefore I believe it.

*tsk*...that should be longest learning curve.

ti i think what you meant was that her learning curve is vertical.

I believe the term is "flatlined" and it is nice to see CC give Penny credit for not drinking the action movie koolaide of armchair heroes like Steyn.
Derbyshire's remark that a .22 doesn't do much damage is pretty much disproved by history. RFK was killed with one, and Reagan's lung was punctured by a .22 round that bounced off the door frame of his limo and went in his armpit. Both from the same model of gun, the Iver Johnson Cadet revolver. Oddly, the same pistol makes a further mockery of Derbyshire's suggestion that people could have counted the shots and jumped the gunman while he was reloading. Automatic pistols have all sort of magazine sizes, but not even all revolvers are six-shooters --- the Iver Johnson revolver holds 8 shots.

Fuck these people!
