"Augmentation" is certainly more accurate than "escalation," but neither meme is correct. What's fascinating is that it's exactly what the Democrats in Congress wanted, yet they're complaining about it now that President Bush actually did it.

Maybe she's trying to take all the fun out of the word "augmentation" in order to get back at some of her oppponents for stealing the word "gay".
"Surge" implies a temporary increase in troop levels; "augmentation" implies a permanent increase.
I think she's simply being honest.
