Your daily Pearl.

Because it's never the wrong time to make fun of the French.

CC, I can appreciate the humour - to a point, but, as I pointed out to my strapping 6 foot muscular son this afternoon, after he made a similar reference - we owe the "French" more than we can ever repay in terms of culture, food, art, literature etc.
Quite frankly, I'm tired of the humour at their expense, unless there is a similar expose of the valour and contribution of the French - they are not all Vichy, they are all human and they are part of our country and history. Lecture over, and I apologize, but I'm sick of this culture that paints the French as cowards - even though the most successful and dangerous resistence was theirs in a time of the most dastardly period in history.

GG, your point is well taken but, sadly, there is such thing as "Conservative" dressing, or I would have been all over that instead.

I like your blog, although it's often a little incoherent. Conservative have all the rights to scrap the Women Council: they presented a stupid conservative program, 'we' have elected them, and they go on with their stupid conservative program. What is surprising in this ? If a leftist governement that I would have voted for wanted to have a program to educate people about the dangers of religion (like, kiling people for God, ruining people's life by promoting a twisted morality, etc.), I would find it normal. But that is a little inconvenience for a blog that is full of interesting information. And I was happy to find a good left-wing blog in Canada, that almost recouncilied me with this pseudocountry. But frankly, you are deceiving me with your attacks on the French. Yes, many things are sad in France's intellectual life, right now. But your insistance on them and your stating that "Only thing worse than a Frenchman is a Frenchman who lives in Canada" strike me as profoundly insulting. Quebecers have more in common with you than you have in common with, say, Albertans. There's about no Conservative in Quebec. The only big right-to-center parties are federalists. Reading your racist statements, I think I understand why Quebec's left is not tempted by federalism. Even for Canadian leftists, racism seems OK as long as it is about the francophones... Sad, very sad. Hope we will be better friend when we move from your country.
