Pity the poor Blogging Tories. From their drool-caked bar stools over in Wankerville, they gaze longingly at all that intellectual horsepower assembled over at the Progressive Bloggers of Canada, and then reality sets in when they realize they're instead stuck with someone like, oh, this.
BB opens with a preliminary shot at disgraced Louisiana Democratic Congressman William Jefferson:
Two more sex scandals
You can’t trust anyone nowadays it looks like. Scroll down to see.
Even congressmen are getting to the act.
Personally the American obsession with sex and public officials has always struck me as a bit odd. I guess it’s their Puritanical streak coming out. There’s another congressman found with some $100,000 in his freezer and he’s still in office. Priorities I guess
Except that it wasn't $100,000, it was $90,000. Oh, and it was the Democrats, led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who immediately stripped their fellow Democrat of his position on the Ways and Means Committee, unlike the current crop of diseased Republicans who are all scrambling to cover their asses and preserve their positions in the political food chain. But that's just the sloppy scholarship you've come to expect from the Blogging Tories in general, so I'm sure you're not surprised. But BB isn't done.
Lemme see if I understand what’s going on. A congressman sends some explict IMs to a congressional page. Both individuals are of age. Where’s the problem? Perhaps Canadian Cynic could explain it to me using small words so I can understand it.
"Some explicit IMs to a congressional page?" Ah, this would be the suicidal Tony Snow "simply naughty e-mails" defense, for which Snow got pounded in the media almost immediately. Yes, it is amusing to notice that, when even Far Right, lunatic periodicals like WingNutDaily finally understand the problem, we still have moral outliers like BB, out there at the tail end of the curve, who sit there thinking, "Geez, so it was a few racy notes from a 51-year-old congressman to a minor. What's the big deal here? Man, talk about over-reaction."
Oh, yes, BB -- you and your BT drinking buds are just the folks to lecture the rest of us on things like "feeding frenzy," aren't you, while downplaying the existence of a Republican serial, sexual predator that was protected for years by his GOP colleagues. Yeah, BB, you're just the one who should be explaining those moral boundaries to the rest of us.
Were those words short enough for you, BB?
TEN POUNDS OF WANK IN A FIVE-POUND BAG. It's also worth pointing out the latest meme from the sleaze-o-sphere, as expressed so conveniently by "Olaf" in the comments section of BB's piece (emphasis added):
I did not know that the student page was of legal age… I just assumed from all the freaking out that this was a case of molestation, instead of just homosexuality.
Did you catch that? Notice how, over the last few days, Foley has slowly morphed from a sexual predator with clearly pedophilic tendencies obsessed exclusively with teenagers, to just a run-of-the-mill gay pervert out cruising for boys. Is that convenient or what? Let the thoroughly predictable (and hideously dishonest) gay-bashing begin.
Congratulations, Olaf. When it comes to disseminating ridiculous, desperate, right-wing talking points, you are the very definition of a "useful idiot."

BB also makes this stupid commment "If he really wanted to have sex with an of age teenager, he could have gone into any number of gay chat rooms and had his fill and then some."
Who said he didn't? Is there any reason he couldn't have been doing that as well? We don't know what else he was doing.
Ok, Olaf's officially on my shit list.
There are all kinds of ethical problems with this, not to mention a very specific legal issue that has to do with an incoherent law in the US...a sixteen year-old may be of age (depending on the state) to consent but there is a federal law that prohibits solliciting minors (under the age of 18). Frankly, the whole thing's a joke, but really, Olaf should inform himself a bit better before jumping in and saying something stupid.
This isn't really about Foley's tacky indiscetions (although I'd have been the first to shop him off had I got wind of this); this is about the multi-year cover-up, and the hypocrisy of these endlessly moralising conservatives.
As a Canadian, I couldn't possibly care less about the Democrats using this to their political advantage (although more power to them...these Republicans need to be destroyed); that's just politics. If the Connies abhor that, they shouldn't engage in it.
is a federal law that prohibits solliciting minors
...to clarify.."prohibits solliciting minors over the internet."
