Blogging Tory Short Takes: March 14, 2006.

Shorter Uncommon Truths: "Stephen Harper -- now there's a leader. And a man. Those impish eyes ... that come-hither smile ... those sinewy forearms, lightly glistening with sweat ..."

Shorter Damian Penny: "I love calling people 'moonbats'. It sure beats getting involved in actual, you know, discourse. Moonbat."

Shorter Noise from the Right: "... those bronzed muscular thighs ... those tanned, chiselled features that whisper ever so quietly of the burning masculinity beneath ..."

Shorter Toronto Tory: "What is it with the CBC's obsession with intelligent, articulate, popular, socially-conscious Canadians that made a difference? Geez, get over it already."

Shorter Bound by Gravity: "'Progressive'. 'Regressive'. What's the difference?"

Shorter Also Canadian: "... his eyes, those limpid blue eyes that look deep into your soul and can tease the secrets from your very essence, God, yes ..."

Shorter Canadian Christian Conservative: "As a Born-Again Christian, redeemed by the shed blood of the risen and eternal Lord Jesus Christ, I'd like to apologize for having previously used the term 'moonbat' without clearly defining the left-wing, anti-capitalistic, Jesus-hating, atheistic, socialist peaceniks I was referring to."

Shorter North American Patriot: "Saddam Hussein is an evil, murderous dictator who lied about everything unless it was something I wanted to hear."

Shorter GayandRight: "Speaking as a gay conservative ..." What? You need a punchline here?

You know, I like Andrew at BBG and actually consider him a friend, but that "progressive" thing is right out to lunch.

He usually has good, intelligent stuff. That was, well, weird.

Of course, they should have kept the name "Progressive Conservative" if it was such a big deal...

Sadly Mike has bought into the "progressive" nonsense a little too much. I think the label is like a mantle to some people - the positive nature of the word helps them justify their policies.

Andrew:

If you don't like the current use of the word "progressive," feel free to submit a better definition, but try to come up something that's not as unspeakably lame as "an individual who strives to create social change."

Under that definition, someone who wanted to take away womens' right to vote and wanted blacks and aboriginals to sit at the back of the bus again would be considered "progressive."

If you have a beef, let's hear it. But you don't get to reclaim the word just because you have your panties in a bunch over the way it's being used at the moment.
