What was all the "deference" stuff about, again?

Once upon a time, if you were a Democrat, you were supposed to show the proper "deference" to Commander Chimpy's nominees for the federal court:

President George W. Bush decries opposition to his nominees by Democratic senators, charging that their resistance derives, shamefully, from "politics."

In short, he was the prez so your job was to sit there, shut up and obligingly rubber-stamp every lunatic and wingnut that was paraded before you.

How ironic, then, that it's conservatives who are most outraged about Chimpy's latest pick for SCOTUS. So much for all that "deference" bullshit.
