Uh oh ... the wheels are coming off the Bush wagon.

Well, this is an interesting development:

The Bush administration's choice for deputy attorney general has withdrawn his nomination amid mounting questions from Senate Democrats over his dealings with indicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff and over his role in shaping controversial interrogation policies.

So much for Bush's "mandate" to do whatever the hell he wanted, including nominate completely incompetent, brazenly criminal cronies to positions of power. Could this be a portent of Harriet Miers taking a walk as well? It's not like there's a real parallel here but, who knows?

And I like this part of the article:

Many of the committee's Democrats had accused Flanigan of dodging questions and said his withdrawal should not be used to close off further inquiries.

"While Mr. Flanigan's nomination has been withdrawn, troubling questions remain about the Bush administration's torture policies and Abramoff's dealings with the administration and the Republican leadership of Congress," said Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.).

Oooooh ... just walking away from the nomination doesn't mean Flanigan's in the clear. Apparently, there are some seriously pissed Democrats who don't want to let him go. Good Dems. Have a biscuit.

Cue America's Dumbest Wanker™, pompously pronouncing how this is all just a witch hunt, partisan politics and those fine conservatives should be viewed as innocent until proven guilty. And besides, it's all Clinton's fault, anyway. Or something.
