As Atrios posts here, an excerpt from a Bob Herbert piece in the NY Times, in which George Dubya waxes sanctimonious:

"The enemy attacked us, Jim, and I have a solemn duty to protect the American people, to do everything I can to protect us."

Added Bush quickly, "Well, OK, maybe not everything. Maybe not reading Presidential Daily Briefings entitled Bin Laden determined to attack within the United States. I mean, come on, be reasonable."
